We are seeking a Senior Graduate Program Advisor to work out of our headquarters in Santa Barbara on a full-time 37.5-hour per week basis. Due to COVID-19, employment will be working from home until we can safely open our Santa Barbara office.

 

Summary

The Senior Graduate Program Advisor (S-GPA) provides academic program advising and support to Fielding Graduate University students in the Clinical Psychology doctoral program and Re-specialization certificate program. The S-GPA is integral to the success of Clinical students, serving as a guide who facilitates an understanding of administrative and clinical processes and policies, and provides institutional and program orientation and advising services. The S-GPA works closely in partnership with Clinical faculty, academic program administrators, Clinical directors and administrators, and staff to provide integrated academic services. The S-GPA advocates for students’ best interests by serving as a liaison for students among faculty, staff, and those external to the university. The S-GPA is directly involved in the development of institutional policies and procedures pertaining to curriculum design, enrollment, academic progress and retention, specifically as it relates to the Clinical programs and in support of continuing APA accreditation status.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Master’s degree in any social science or equivalent work experience required. Psychology, mental health counseling, social work, or related clinical field is preferred. Minimum 3 years’ experience in counseling, advising, or educational administration. Clinical psychology, mental health counseling, or social work experience preferred.

Familiarity with clinical training requirements and specialized counseling theoretical orientations.  Ability to maintain confidentiality is critical. Knowledge of legal issues in higher education, including FERPA and ADA/Section 504 and other relevant federal regulations. Counseling skills.  Public presentation skills. Diplomacy. Knowledge of student retention and retention issues. Professional knowledge and contacts. 

 

Please note: this is a staff-level advising position, not a faculty or program leadership position. A doctorate is not required.
