General Description of Position

The Department of Chemistry and Physics at the University of Mary Washington invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of Physics to begin August 2021. Ph.D. is required. All areas of physics will be considered, with preference being given to candidates with prior undergraduate teaching experience and a background in computational or theoretical physics.
We seek candidates with enthusiasm for working with students, the ability to teach a variety of courses across the physics curriculum, and a desire to contribute creatively to our traditional major, our major in Applied Physics, and general education courses, such as First-Year Seminar. Dedication to continuing professional development and departmental and college-wide service is required. Highly qualified candidates will be able to demonstrate dedication to effective teaching and high-impact learning in an inclusive environment that embraces diverse talents and backgrounds. The successful candidate will be expected to develop an original research program in his/her area of expertise, and preference will be given to candidates who will involve students in on-campus research.

UMW is a public liberal arts and sciences university dedicated to effective teaching and the integration of undergraduate students in research. The Department offers Physics and Applied Physics majors and has recently moved into new lab and teaching facilities in the Jepson Science Center addition, which is well-equipped to support its teaching and research missions.
