Valdosta State University's History Department in the College of Humanities and Social Sciences seeks applicants for a tenure-track position in the field of Public History and U.S. History.  The selected candidate will be responsible for teaching courses in the candidate’s area of expertise, maintaining scholarly productivity, and participating in service at the department, college, and university levels.

The department has ten full-time faculty members (nine tenured professors and one full-time non-tenure track instructor) and is responsible for providing required US History survey courses that are the core curriculum, as well as, upper-level and graduate classes needed for the B.A. and M.A. degree in History.  The department also participates in an innovative dual degree program that enables students to earn both a B.A. in History and B.S.Ed. in Secondary Education in as few as 126 hours.  For more information about the department visit

Teaching responsibilities include upper-level and graduate courses in Public History as well as in the candidate's area of expertise in U.S. History.  Position will teach U.S. History survey courses and required major courses in historical research, writing, and historiography, as well as graduate courses.  The standard teaching load is four 3-hour classes per term (12 credit hours per semester).  In addition to instruction, faculty have mentoring responsibilities, an expectation to assist the department and university with committee work, and must maintain a record of scholarly activity.

  • A record of mentoring students of diverse backgrounds
