The Department of Mathematics and Statistics at Oakland University invites applications for two tenure-track positions: one at the rank of Assistant Professor and the other one at the rank of Assistant/Associate Professor of Mathematics in continuous mathematics, beginning of the Fall Semester 2021. Applicants with speciality in areas of continuous mathematics, including but not limited to partial differential equations, variational methods, continuous optimization, dynamical systems with applications in epidemiology and population dynamics, or of financial mathematics and actuarial science, are encouraged to apply. The successful candidates should have the necessary training to teach most undergraduate courses, and graduate courses in continuous mathematics. Responsibilities of these positions include teaching, research, contribution to the actuarial science program (the second position), contribution to the Department's programs and other services. For these two appointments, candidates must have a Ph.D. in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline in continuous mathematics (or its requirements completed) by August 15, 2021. The primary selection criteria will be an applicants' demonstrated effective teaching (at both undergraduate and graduate level), quality research, and the potential of effective service to the department, the university and the profession. Amongst applicants who are found highly qualified with respect to these criteria, preference will be given to those in continuous mathematics and those with strong research collaboration potential with members of the Department of Mathematics and Statistics. For the Assistant/Associate position preference will be given to those who can fulfill the department's current instructional needs in the program of actuarial science. Candidates must demonstrate experience with or a commitment to diversity and inclusion. Due to the pandemic, a non-traditional interviewing process may be used, and the successful candidate may be expected to teach online courses, depending on the university's policies concerning the Covid-19 pandemic.Ph.D. in Mathematics or Applied Mathematics, or a closely related discipline in continuous mathematics (or its requirements completed) by August 15, 2021.
