Position Summary

The Associate Director position would be part-time for the first three years (~20 hours/week) with the primary role to complement, support, and supplement the capabilities and responsibilities of the current Director in order to expand the global footprint of the Mockler Center in all areas of growth, but especially the area of business and economics, where we have our greatest expertise. This candidate should align with GCTS’s core values and mission and demonstrate a strong commitment to working collaboratively with administrators, faculty, funders, and students, as well as forge new global and national institutional partnerships to support the Mockler Center.


Primary Responsibilities

• Course Instruction: Upon approval of the Division of Practical Theology and/or the Faculty (as required by the Faculty Handbook), and under the direction of the Mockler-Phillips Professor of Workplace Theology and Business Ethics, design and teach graduate-level and executive-level courses (in person, online, and/or hybrid) related to business ethics, economics, investing, leadership in the public square and related subjects;

• Event Management: Work closely with the Director to design and execute successful online and in-person events and conferences (e.g., Ockenga Fellows, C-Suite Sabbath retreat, Livestreams, Made to Flourish Network and the Oikonomia Network);

• Advisement: Upon approval of the Faculty and Deans (as required by the Faculty Handbook), advise Doctoral and Masters’ students in Workplace Theology and Ethical Leadership;

• Program Development: Research and write working papers, publishable papers; Serving as a resource to the Director for brainstorming and visioning program structure, content, and direction. As part of this consultative support role, provide ongoing research into best practices and resources, regularly updating the developing database and bibliography.

• Communications: Produce Mockler Center communications and various reports.


Required Competencies

• Communication and Interpersonal Effectiveness: Must have strong leadership, interpersonal, organizational and communication skills including the ability to work in a team setting across various departments and campuses. Ability to represent GCTS and/or the Director at meetings, in courses, and in the media (online, AAC, Faculty Juries, conferences, etc., as permitted by the Faculty Handbook).

• Program Management: Demonstrated ability to grow existing programs, such as conferences, retreats and seminars, while simultaneously conceiving of new cutting-edge programs and initiatives.

• Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion: Commitment to collegiality, diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communication with others.

• Christian Faith: Commitment to the mission of Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary; evident Christian faith and practice and active involvement in the life of a local congregation.

• Travel: Ability to travel (30%) and attend speaking engagements; ability to work evenings and weekends as needed; valid driver’s license.

• Language: Proficiency in two or more languages preferred.


Education and Experience

• PhD or other terminal degree in economics, theology or related disciplines, with active memberships in both national and international economic research and professional networks, academic associations, and diverse business circles;

• A graduate degree (or a degree in progress) in Theology, Divinity or related discipline.

• 5+ years of experience teaching in higher education with successful record of leadership, research and mentorship of diverse students; some experience working in a U.S. seminary preferred;

• 5+ years of experience working in international settings with increasing program management responsibilities, effective cross-cultural communication skills, and the ability to work across the public, private and social sectors in multiple countries;

Salary and Benefits

• Salary is commensurate with experience. Gross salary shall be 1/2 the salary of a comparable full-time Associate Professor’s salary.
