The University is seeking a qualified candidate for full-time (12 month), tenure-track Nutrition Faculty. This position serves the Sam Houston State University College of Osteopathic Medicine in Biomedical Sciences and reports to the Chair of Molecular and Cellular Biology. The College of Osteopathic Medicine started its inaugural class in August 2020. The College of Osteopathic Medicine is focused on primary care and other specialties identified as physician workforce shortages in the State of Texas and has developed an integrated curriculum merging basic science instruction with clinical learning and an osteopathic emphasis. Thus, nutritional health is an important component of the curriculum.

As a key member of the Biomedical Sciences division, this position will serve in the development of clinically relevant nutrition content for a series of collaborative team-taught, systems-based courses with the opportunity to lead a GI and Nutrition course as course director. The Nutrition faculty member is expected to empower future physicians with the tools necessary to discuss nutrition with patients through the development and delivery of an evidence-based curriculum, including such topics as: diet and healthy lifestyle, nutrition adequacy and excess, nutrition for sports performance, nutritional factors associated with disease development, nutrition throughout the lifecycle, appetite regulation and associated disorders, nutritional considerations for augmented feedings, and applications for a variety of disorders including diabetes, cancer, and inflammatory bowel diseases.

Faculty will be expected to participate in scholarship and service (college/university/professional), advise and mentor students, and foster collaboration and interdisciplinary learning among biomedical and clinical faculty. The individual should be comfortable utilizing a variety of teaching modalities which may include large group discussion, small group facilitation, integrated technology, and course platform management.
