The Director of Student and Family Engagement is charged with leading the Office of Student & Family Engagement, a unit tasked with developing programs and services designed to enhance the overall student experience and positively impact student retention and satisfaction. The Director is responsible for the overall management, planning, administration, and direction of the office. This position also will assist the Dean of Students with the budget and planning for the units under the Dean's authority. The Director will provide direct supervision to two Assistant Directors, the Coordinator for Student & Family Engagement, an Administrative Specialist and indirect supervision to two additional Coordinators for Student Engagement and Fraternity & Sorority Life and two Graduate Assistants. This position will require evening and weekend hours. Duties will include:

Office Management

Oversee all functional units within the Office of Student & Family Engagement including Homecoming, Welcome Week, Student Media, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Registered Student Organizations and Parent and Family Programs; responsible for management of office personnel, including the recruitment, hiring, training, and evaluation of staff, delegating some supervisory responsibilities as needed; create, foster, and engage in a collaborative, cross functional work environment where functional duties and responsibilities of the office are spread among the staff; regularly assess, evaluate, and communicate the effectiveness of department services and programs; maintain understanding of all department functions and seek additional knowledge and/or certification in department areas as needed; provide oversight and authority for departmental budgets; and ensure expenditures are appropriate and in compliance with University/System Fiscal Policies.

Registered Student Organizations

Serve as the primary administrator for the University's student involvement platform (MocSync); serve as the liaison between vendor and campus enrollment system specialists; conduct regular maintenance of the platform; provide guidance and support to 160+ registered student organizations, including organization leaders and faculty/staff advisors; develop, implement, and assess comprehensive leadership curricula for ongoing student organization leader trainings and workshops; and generate various assessment reports from the platform when requested.

Welcome Week

Coordinate the planning, marketing, and execution of Welcome Week at the beginning of the fall semester; negotiate contracts with performers and vendors; provide on-site supervision at the programs associated with this campus tradition; and work collaboratively with other campus partners to plan and develop the programs offered throughout the week.

Additional Responsibilities

Attend appropriate University functions and campus events to maintain visibility/approachability; assist with other events/programs sponsored by the office and the larger Dean of Students unit; serve on office and divisional program initiatives and university committees; establish positive working relationships with campus partners and key stakeholders; collaborate with closely aligned departments on co-sponsored initiatives and programs; stay abreast of current trends related to campus programming, student organizations, fraternity/sorority life and parent/family engagement; and perform other duties as assigned.

The ideal candidate will possess the following:

  • Knowledge of event planning, risk management, student engagement and student organizations, including fraternity/sorority life

  • Knowledge of issues concerning the parents and families of college students

  • Ability to take initiative and work collaboratively in setting priorities to ensure that responsibilities are carried out in a accurate and timely fashion

  • Ability to interact effectively with students, faculty, staff, and community members of diverse backgrounds with a sensitivity to diversity and multicultural issues

  • Ability and willingness to function as a member of a team

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Ability to effectively supervise professional staff

Minimum Qualifications: Master's degree in Higher Education, College Student Development, Ed Leadership, Student Affairs, Student Personnel Admin, or a related field; minimum of five or more years of directly related experience in Student Affairs and/or Higher Education Administration; and strong project-management and organizational skills to effectively manage multiple programs.

Preferred Qualifications: Five (5) to seven (7) years of directly related experience in student engagement, fraternity and sorority life, and/or student activities; experience in a supervisory role demonstrating a strategic approach to issues, problem-solving, and relationship building; demonstrated knowledge of creating and implementing student engagement programs (including programs specifically targeted toward undergraduate members of fraternities and sororities) for college students; experience with budget development and management and leadership development; experience with the CampusLabs Engage platform; commitment to personal and professional development; and ability to develop strategic plan and implement assessment strategies and reports.
