Provides technical assistance in the care of laboratory animals. Administers anesthesia, provides management of surgical patients, and carries out treatments prescribed by the veterinarian.
- Provides pre- and post- operative management of critical and
non-critical surgical patients.
- Performs anesthetic induction, maintenance and monitoring for
animals undergoing surgical procedures.
- Cleans, disinfects, and prepares equipment, instruments and
surgery suites for surgical procedures.
- Performs diagnostic test procedures such as hematology, serum
chemistries, parasitological exams, EKGs, and radiological
exams.
- Monitors and maintains health surveillance programs, rodent
sentinel testing, rodent quarantine procedures, and non-human
primate tuberculosis testing.
- Performs daily health rounds of laboratory animals.
- Performs quality control testing to ensure adequate
disinfection of surgery suites, rooms and equipment.
- Provides life support for veterinary emergencies.
- Maintains records of controlled substance usage, patient care
and treatment, and quarantine testing results.
- Provides training in proper handling of laboratory animals and
aseptic techniques.
- Provides work direction and guidance to departmental staff and
assists the director with administration of compliance
programs.
- Performs other job-related duties assigned.

Qualifications :
18 months and 1 year experience.
Education: Requires specialized training in basic trades, principles, procedures, practice, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required.
Required: Completion of an American Veterinary Medical Association (AVMA) Committee on Veterinary Technician Education and Activities (CVTEA) program that graduates veterinary technicians and/or veterinary technologists.
Experience: Requires a minimum of one (1) years of directly job-related experience after graduation from an AVMA CVTEA program.
Certification/Licensing: Requires technical certification or licensing directly related to the job, as specified on the job posting details.
Preferred: Licensed Veterinary Technician (LVT).
