The Austin College Public Health Program invites applications for a tenure-track position beginning Fall 2021. A Ph.D. in Public Health or a related field is required. If the candidate has a doctorate in a related field, then a Masters in Public Health is necessary. A strong commitment to teaching excellence is essential. Teaching duties will include three courses per semester plus January Term courses, the latter usually during alternating years. Expertise must be focused in the areas of Social and Behavioral Health, Health Promotion and Disease Prevention, or Community Health. Those who have specialties in other areas of public health, such as epidemiology and health policy, will not be considered since we already have faculty with expertise in both of those fields. Successful candidates also will be able to teach Fundamentals of Public Health, and offer other courses based on expertise and the Public Health Program’s and College’s needs.

In addition to a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, we expect the candidate who fills this position to develop an active research program that involves undergraduate students and to be enthusiastic about working with colleagues to place students in internships. The College has a program that provides summer research stipends for students involved in research.

The Public Health Program at Austin College is a strong and growing interdisciplinary program. The selected candidate will be joining 2 full-time tenure-track Public Health faculty with expertise in Epidemiology and Health Care Policy and Management, and a Public Health Physician in Residence. Our program is located in the IDEA Center, a new three-story science facility including 16 classrooms, 32 advanced laboratory-classrooms, a 108-seat auditorium, and an observatory.

Austin College supports interdisciplinary courses and programs. We appreciate candidates who can work with and/or contribute to curricula in areas such as East Asian Studies, Environmental Studies, Gender Studies, Nonprofit Organizations and Public Service, and Southwestern and Mexican Studies. We also welcome candidates who would be interested in collaborating with colleagues in related programs such as Psychology and Sociology. Austin College has a diverse student body and is committed to the same in the hiring process.
