General Summary/Purpose

TheCenter for Mental Health and Addiction Policy Research (CMHAPR)at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health has an opening for a senior research data analyst. This position will involve advanced quantitative data analysis for health services and policy-related research projects conducted by investigators at CMHAPR.CMHAPRis dedicated to improving the lives of persons with mental illness and addiction by engaging in policy research, translating research evidence into policy and practice, and training the next generation of mental health and addiction policy researchers. Affiliated faculty come from across the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health and the School of Medicine, including the Departments of Health Policy and Management, Mental Health, Epidemiology, Health Behavior and Society, Medicine, and Psychiatry.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

The Sr. Research Data analyst requires advanced training in quantitative data analysis methods. The analyst will use Stata, R, and/or SAS to create analytical datasets from surveys, health care claims, electronic health records, vital statistics data, and other quantitative data sources commonly used in health services and policy research. Will combine data from multiple data sources and construct analytical variables through data cleaning and data manipulation. Will apply econometrics and other advanced statistical techniques, including modeling to estimate associations and causal effects. Will apply quality assurance procedures to ensure the validity and reliability of the study results. Will produce reports describing results from analyses.

Strong teamwork, communication, and collaboration skills are needed to support multiple projects led by individual investigators. May contribute to writing manuscripts so strong writing skills also important. In certain circumstances, remote work may be possible.

Minimum Qualifications

Master's degree in related discipline.

1 year related experiencein Public Health, Health Policy, Epidemiology, Biostatistics, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Psychology, or related field. Require highly specialized advanced knowledge, education and/or training in a specialized field of study to conduct research.

Demonstrated ability on significant graduate project or additional doctoral education may substitute for experience to the extent permitted by the JHU equivalency formula.

For jobs where equivalency is permitted, up to two years of non-related college course work may be applied towards the total minimum education/experience required for the respective job. *

Preferred Qualifications

Typically require PhD. Experience with multiple data analysis software and fluency in multiple programming languages is preferred.

Experience in managing and analyzing large datasets and using at least one or several analytic software products such as Stata, SAS, or R is required. Applicant must have strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team, while contributing to a high quality and respectful work environment. Strong oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively to colleagues and staff across multidisciplinary areas. Ability to manage multiple projects in a dynamic environment with changing priorities. Proven ability to establish realistic goals and deliver work on schedule. Ability to work independently and solve problems as they arise and communicate effectively with colleagues and PI.

This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
