The Chemical Engineering Program at San José State University seeks qualified candidates for a full-time tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor (with tenure).

Department Summary

The Charles W. Davidson College of Engineering serves more than 7000 undergraduate and graduate students across 13 Engineering disciplines. The College is nationally ranked at #3 among public universities and #17 overall among engineering programs offering bachelor’s and master’s degrees (US News and World Report, 2020). Since 1956, the Department of Chemical and Materials Engineering has been committed to providing the best academic preparation for undergraduate and graduate students. Required Qualifications

Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering or closely related engineering discipline with at least one degree (B.S. or M.S.) in Chemical Engineering. The applicant must have attained the PhD degree by January 2021, and must have at least one year of post-doctoral work or equivalent industry/academia experience. Demonstrated research expertise in biochemical engineering, materials processing, or renewable energy, particularly related to the themes identified as priority areas by the University: Sustainable Futures and Earth Systems Science or Health Equity and Health Infrastructures. The applicant must be committed to teaching and research activities of the highest academic and professional caliber, and maintain a student-centric approach, thus contributing to the development of students as productive, responsible, and caring citizens of the world. Applicants must have a strong commitment to: (a) teaching and working with a diverse population of students at the undergraduate and Masters levels, (b) teaching core and elective undergraduate and Masters-level Chemical Engineering courses, (c) curricular development to complement and further advance the current curriculum, (d) laboratory development that will enhance the quality of education and research opportunities provided to the students, (e) development of externally funded research program, and dissemination through peer-reviewed publications, and (f) should demonstrate an awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population as might have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching and other comparable experience. The ideal candidate will be a highly motivated self-starter, have excellent written and oral communications skills, and be a team player.

  • Aptitude for developing new or complementing existing chemical engineering undergraduate laboratory curricula



Responsibilities


  • Candidate will teach Masters-level and undergraduate courses in chemical engineering, conduct research in their area of expertise, publish in peer-reviewed journals, and contribute to the growth and success of the department.

  • Candidate will participate in shared governance, usually in department, college, and university committee and other service assignments.
  • Candidate must demonstrate awareness and experience understanding the needs of a student population of great diversity – in age, cultural background, ethnicity, primary language and academic preparation – through inclusive course materials, teaching strategies and advisement.
