The Director, Advanced Technology Center is the administrative leader responsible for center operations, including programming and services to ensure student, community and employee needs are met. Reporting to the Dean of Engineering, Math and Physical Sciences, this position will lead the College’s initiative to develop and run an Advanced Technology Center ( ATC ). The ATC is intended to support the talent pipeline needs of local industry and provide workforce solutions to area manufacturers. This position is responsible for developing, leading, and coordinating the launch of the ATC by working collaboratively with college and division leadership and program faculty. Additionally, the Director will serve as a liaison to industry partners and external stakeholders, monitor program and project outcomes, and supervise ongoing operations of the ATC . In support of center operations, the Director is responsible for the development of consistent processes and application of policy that align with the College’s administrative practices. The Director represents the center as a college spokesperson to the community-at-large; responsible for fostering partnerships and relationships within the community.

SUMMARY OF ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Strategic Leadership and Planning (35%)

Develop and maintain cooperative relationships with employers, professional associations and community based organizations to insure awareness of the value of ATC programs
Establish the ATC as a community resource and partner in economic development
Coordinate with Educational Affairs and Community & Workforce Partnerships team members to support program/product launch, monitor project progress, and adjust resources based on progress
Create outreach plans to complement strategic marketing plans for advanced technology center programs
Conduct outreach to industry partners and monitor environmental factors to inform development of programs, products, and services
Assist department chairs and division leadership to ensure all curriculum development is completed within timeline for launch of advanced technology programs
Coordinate internal and external resources for the development and advancement of advanced technology programs to include, but not limited to, engaging in grant writing, community fundraising, and/or assisting in philanthropic activities
Measure and analyze center and program performance using appropriate tools and techniques specifically related to the successful completion of short and long-term goals
Evaluate the need for and recommend the acquisition of equipment, materials, and facilities for the center
Work in coordination with the Facilities Department to address campus infrastructure and maintenance needs, and the efficient use of campus facilities.
Direct center operations and assume responsibility for decisions related to risk management, health and safety, and communication protocols for onsite operations
Develop, monitor, and hold accountability for center budget and goals through annual planning cycle

Project Management (30%)

Serve as the project lead for the College’s initiative to develop and grow an advanced technology center
Manage projects related to launching new or expanded advanced technology center programs, products, and services.
Contribute to development of scope and objectives in coordination with relevant stakeholders for individual projects
Manage changes to project scope, project schedule and project costs using appropriate verification techniques
Coordinate project tasks based on project members’ individual strengths, skill sets and experience levels
Ensure that all projects are delivered on-time, within scope, and within budget
Develop detailed project plans to monitor and track progress using applicable tools such as spreadsheets, diagrams, process maps, applications, and software programs
Create and maintain comprehensive project documentation to include the preparation and maintenance of various reports, files, records, and other documents in a timely and accurate manner

Operations Management and Personnel Supervision (30%)

Supervise center reception and lab support staff and serve as the onsite administrator for other staff and faculty working in the center
Function as the onsite administrator for decision making related to emergency management
Collaborate with administrators and others to ensure consistency and efficiency of program administration
Communicate with other administrators, staff, faculty, external stakeholders, and various agencies as needed to coordinate activities and programs, resolve challenges, and support positive relationships
Establish strong community partnerships in support of advanced technology programs
Leverage student success principles to ensure alignment to services, programs, and product development within the college’s mission and strategic plan
Demonstrate solid commitment to CLC values, goals, and equity outcomes
Commit to leadership professional development

Other Duties (5%)
Attend, conduct, and participate in meetings, seminars, committees, and conferences
Perform other related duties as assigned

Required Qualification

Master’s degree + 5 years recent professional experience in business management (manufacturing highly preferred) or higher education (faculty or administration)
OR
Bachelor’s degree + 7 years of recent professional experience in business management (manufacturing highly preferred) or higher education (faculty or administration)

Type of degree – manufacturing-related industry, business, communication, management, finance, education, public administration or related field of study.

• Minimum of 3 years recent direct employee supervisory experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of purchasing and budget management experience.
• Demonstrated project management skills.
• Detail oriented with strong organizational and time management skills as well as solid project management skills.
• Intermediate/Advanced Excel and Word skills; beginner/intermediate PowerPoint skills; and query/report writer proficiency.
• Demonstrated sensitivity, knowledge, and an understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, gender, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds of the students we serve and sensitivity to and knowledge and understanding of groups historically underrepresented.

GENERAL ADMINISTRATOR JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Model College of Lake County Values at all times.

2. Remain current and knowledgeable of all applicable Board Policy and related procedures.

3. Remain knowledgeable and comply with all federal and state standards, and College Policies and procedures. Assure proper internal controls within all levels of the division or department, establish and utilize monitoring mechanisms and assure regular training of managers/supervisors and staff.

4. Accountable for division/departmental expense processing including procurement of items and services, and accurate payroll and attendance for the division or department. Assure proper internal controls are in place, monitor and train staff.

5. Accountable for maintenance of departmental records per federal, state and College of Lake County standards.

6. Fosters regular clear and consistent communications within division/department; assuring communications are messaged at all levels of the division and/or department.

7. Foster positive employee relations, assuring this is cascaded throughout all levels of managers and supervisors within the division and/or department, and that includes regular employee feedback, recognition and progressive discipline where needed. Assure timely and consistent performance evaluation processes are followed at all levels within the division or department.

8. Support the growth and development of personnel within the division and/or department, assuring this support is cascaded throughout all levels of managers and supervisors within the division/department.

9. Exercise appropriate discretion and judgment; maintain confidentiality of sensitive information and documents. Avoid conflicts of interest. Report issues as they arise.

10. Participate in Shared Governance; serve on institutional level councils, commissions and/or committees. Foster the encouragement of employees at all levels within the division/department to participate in committees, councils, commissions and/or projects.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES : College: Knowledge of college policies, procedures, and practices; ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, and diagram form; ability to perform all essential functions using safe work methods and following safety regulations relating to job; knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act ( FERPA ).

PHYSICAL : Primary functions require sufficient physical ability and mobility to work in classroom and office settings; to stand or sit for prolonged periods of time; to occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, reach; to lift, carry, push, and/or pull light to moderate amounts of weight; to operate office equipment requiring repetitive hand movement and fine coordination including use of a computer keyboard; and to verbally communicate to exchange information.
