The Department
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering (CIVL), which
is expanding with an aggressive faculty hiring plan on various hot
and emerging CIVL areas, currently has 30 faculty members, teaching
about 480 undergraduate students and 200 postgraduate research
students. Offering academic degrees in BEng, MSc, MPhil and
PhD, the Department conducts comprehensive teaching and research
programs in both basic and applied aspects of civil
engineering. Research activities are broadly categorized into
Construction Management; Environmental; Geotechnical; Hydraulics
& Water Resources; Material; Structural; and
Transportation. The Department is also developing the area of
Smart Cities and Green Resilient Infrastructure. The
Department is well equipped with state-of-the-art research
facilities and is consistently ranked among the top 20 in the world
according to the QS World University Subject Rankings.
The Role
Reporting to the Dean of Engineering, the Head of CIVL is expected
to provide leadership and manage the Department in its diverse
academic and administrative functions.

The appointment will be concurrent with a substantive professorial

have demonstrated capability to provide strong leadership at the
tertiary level to lead and manage the department in its diverse

where it has enjoyed sustained economic growth and major
infrastructure development over the years.
