Assistant Professor, Electrical Engineering

INTRO:

California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) invites applications for a tenure-track position at the level of Assistant Professor in Electrical Engineering. Candidates must be committed to contributing to an inclusive, undergraduate-centered, pedagogically innovative, and modern Electrical Engineering degree program. Applications from contemporary areas of research are welcome, including Signal and Image Processing, Power and Renewable Energies, Control and Robotics, etc.

CSUSM values teaching undergraduates and involving them in research. The campus is located on a scenic hillside 15 miles east of the Pacific Ocean and in the San Diego North County region, an area known for its temperate climate and growing technology industries. The University was recently awarded a nearly $6 million grant from the Department of Education’s Hispanic Serving Institutions (HSI) STEM program to develop new degree programs in Electrical Engineering and Software Engineering. Our campus embraces twenty-first century learning and the teacher-scholar model.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Possess a S. in Electrical or Computer Engineering and to have received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering or a closely related field by time of appointment.
• Candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in Electrical Engineering related undergraduate teaching and the ability to maintain an active research program that involves undergraduates, many who identify as first-generation college students and underrepresented minority in STEM.
• Candidates must be able to communicate effectively and work cooperatively in an ethnically and culturally diverse campus community that serves the students of the region.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: 

• Earned Ph.D. in Electrical or Computer Engineering when applying.
• Demonstrated effectiveness in research-based instructional practices such as project-based learning or community service learning, and student support for diverse populations, especially those from groups underrepresented in STEM.
• Interest in and/or experience with curriculum development, program development, program assessment, ABET accreditation.
• Experience building industry partnerships; active participation in professional societies such as the IEEE, the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers, etc.
• Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research, and/or service.

DUTIES: 

The successful candidate will work closely with senior faculty in Electrical Engineering and Physics to help develop the new Electrical Engineering program. This includes curriculum development and the design of instructional labs; teaching undergraduate courses; effectively adopting evidence-based pedagogies and strategies to enhance student success; and working with industry and community partners to create and supervise senior capstone projects. The successful candidate is expected to develop an active research program involving undergraduates. In addition, the candidate will contribute to activities serving the Program, College, University, and external community.
