The Department of Leadership, Higher and Adult Education (LHAE) at the Ontario Institute for Studies in Education (OISE), University of Toronto invites applications for a full-time tenure stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor with a specialization in Critical Adult Education. The appointment will commence on July 1, 2021 or shortly thereafter. 

Applicants must have earned a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree in Adult Education, Community Development or a related discipline by the time of appointment or shortly thereafter, with a demonstrated record of excellence in research and teaching. The successful candidate will have demonstrated research expertise, including an established or emerging research program, focusing on one or both of the following areas:  

  • Critical Adult Learning and Popular Pedagogy   
  • Community Development and Social Justice  

In addition to the research areas listed above, we welcome applicants whose Critical Adult Education scholarship is influenced by one or more of the following perspectives: anti-colonialism, anti-Black racism, critical disability studies, queer/trans/two-spirit studies, Indigenous knowledge, political economy, social movement studies, and/or anti-racist feminism. We seek candidates whose research and teaching interests complement and enhance existing strengths in LHAE's Adult Education and Community Development program. 

Candidates are expected to have a record of research excellence as demonstrated by a record of high-quality publications (or publications forthcoming) in top-ranked disciplinary journals, presentations at significant conferences, the submitted research statement, and strong endorsements from referees of high standing.  

Evidence of excellence in teaching at the university level is required, as demonstrated through teaching accomplishments, strong letters of reference, and a teaching dossier including a teaching statement, sample course materials, and teaching evaluations submitted as part of the application. Candidates must demonstrate an interest and ability to contribute to graduate level program areas offered by LHAE’s Adult Education and Community Development program.  

The successful candidate will be expected to pursue independent and innovative research at the highest international level and to establish an outstanding, competitive, and externally funded research program. Other responsibilities of the position include teaching in the Adult Education and Community Development graduate program, supervision and mentoring of graduate students in the program, and contributing to the scholarly community and service work of the program, the Department, OISE, and the University as a whole. 

Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
