Under supervision, the Enrollment and Completion advisor is responsible for supporting freshman students in meeting their educational and social objectives by ensuring the accomplishment of operational outcomes in process or programs. The ECA serves as the main point of contact for the First Year Experience, including enrollment and registration, Summer of Success academy, and advising students through teaching the TSU Freshman Seminar course. ECA’s provide direction and referrals to their cohort to meet the student need, collaborate on growth opportunities within the FYE, and regularly track student’s success and progress throughout their freshman year. Advising cohorts can be more than 200 students across sections.

Essential Duties Summary

Advises cohort of student on a campus-wide basis through instructoinal advisement in a freshman seminar course:
1. Meets with student cohort regularly as an instructor for the Freshman Seminar course.
2. Regularly tracks academic progress and success of students within the course.
3. Responsible for meeting the curriculum objectives as laid out in the Freshman Seminar syllabus.
4. Utilizes multi-modal instruction to engage students with classroom content.
5. Thinks outside of the box on how classroom time can be used to drive (1) campus engagement, (2) use of Student Academic Support Services resources, and (3) Academic Progress.
6. Monitors student’s (1) campus engagement, (2) use of Student Academic Support Services resources, and (3) Academic Progress.
7. Tracks and provides data on cohort group, including success, retention, and completion rates.
8. Responsible for utilizing Gradesfirst to track institutional and departmental outcomes.
9. Generates required statistical reports to fulfill University and outside agency requirements.
10. Works with faculty and university staff to identify and provide needed early interventions to their cohort groups.
11. Assists students in overcoming educational and personal problems, and study skills deficiencies. Refers students to counselors, if necessary. Prepares, maintains, and updates files to ensure coursework and other specific program requirements are met by students.

Registration and Enrollment:
1. Plays a fundamental role in working with college academic advisors to advise and enroll all first year students.
2. Works well under pressure to advise and enroll students during scheduled orientation periods.
3. Advises and assists students in the development of academic plans and class schedules to transition to specific undergraduate academic departments.
4. Connects students to resources, and makes referrals, in the areas of financial aid, housing, student accounting, or other inhibitors to enrollment.
5. Reviews transcripts to ensure eligibility for admission to a specific program and evaluates transfer credits and applicability to program requirements and makes referrals when necessary

Summer of Success:
1. Responsible for working with a cohort of conditional admit students through the Summer of Success bridge program.
2. Responsible for converting potential SOS participants to confirmed participants.
3. Teaches an accelerated Freshman Seminar class during the program.
4. Advises and assists students in the development of academic plans and class schedules.
5. Participates in overall support of the program.

Responsible for other reasonable related duties as assigned. May assist in formulating procedures and making decisions involving student success and the First Year Experience program at TSU .



Hiring Range Commensurate with experience. Education

Master’s Degree (M.A. or M.S.) from four-year College or university or equivalent. Proof of enrollment in a Master’s Program may suffice.

Work Experience

Requires two to three years or equivalent in student services or a related field. Instructional experience a plus.

Leadership/Supervisory Responsibilities

No supervisory responsibility for employees. May supervise part-time student employees on an occasional basis.

Tasks are multiple and diverse with interrelationship across processes. Handles some unrelated functions. Work requires the direct application of a variety of procedures, policies and/or precedents. No responsibility for budget and expenditure authority.

Performs duties within scope of general University policies, procedures and objectives. Analyzes problems and performs needs assessments. Uses judgment in adapting broad guidelines to achieve desired result. Regular exercise of independent judgment within accepted practices is necessary. Makes recommendations that affect policies, procedures and practices. Refers exceptions to policy and procedures to the supervisor.

Regular contact with others, including students, general public, visitors and University personnel. Purpose of contacts is to explain, clarify or interpret information. May handle confidential information and some complex matters.

• Assesses and diffuses problem situations and requires influencing others to reach consensus. Requires tact and diplomacy to handle difficult customer situations. Requires advanced interpersonal and communication skills to establish and maintain internal and external customer relationships. Working/Environmental Conditions

Work is performed within routine office environment with no exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions. Physical demands are usually limited to sitting or standing in one location much of the time. Some stooping, lifting or carrying objects of light weight may be required.
