Position Summary

A Research Technician II position will be available starting November 1st 2020 at the Department of Oral Biology, School of Dental Medicine, UB. The laboratory conducts research in the areas of microbiology and microbe-host interactions. We seek a highly motivated individual to work on a project that investigates the pathophysiology of oral mucositis secondary to cancer therapy. Prior research experience with laboratory rodents is a must to apply to this position. Position duties will include:
- Performing experiments with a mouse model of oral mucositis, including drug administration, tissue dissections and preparation of tissues for histology.
- Maintenance and handling of mouse colonies, including breeding and genotyping.
- Performing immunostainings, microscopic imaging, western blots and qPCRs as required by the project.
- Analysis and organization of data generated by the project.
- Ordering and management of laboratory supplies.
- Supervision of junior laboratory members as required by PI.

Minimum Qualifications

Associate’s degree in biological sciences or related field.
- Prior experience working in a research laboratory and ability to work independently.
- Prior experience conducting research with laboratory rodent models.
- Prior experience performing immunostaining and protein assays including western-blots.
- Competence in microscospy, with candidates knowledgeable in confocal microscopy given high priority.
- Competence in molecular biology techniques including DNA and RNA extraction and qPCR.
- Ability to troubleshoot laboratory protocols.
- Experience working with word, excel, power point and a basic imaging software.
