Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology

The Psychology Program at Penn State Erie, The Behrend College, has an opening for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor. An earned doctorate in clinical or counseling psychology or a related field, and licensure or license eligibility in Pennsylvania are required.

The successful candidate will:
  • Teach clinical and general undergraduate psychology courses, graduate clinical courses
  • Supervise graduate internships and research
  • Teach courses in his or her area of expertise
  • Maintain an active research agenda that engages undergraduate students
  • Advise students
  • Provide service to the school, college, and university


Our program has an emphasis on trauma-informed care and health/medical psychology. Area of research is open; experience and/or scholarship related to these areas is preferred but not required. Experience in graduate curriculum development and seeking external funding are desired.

The Psychology program offers both a BA and a BS in psychology and an MA in Applied Clinical Psychology. It has laboratory space, including a sound attenuating chamber, individual testing rooms, small group rooms, and observation rooms. Other resources include an on-campus child care center and affiliation with the Susan Hirt Hagen Center for Community Outreach, Research, and Evaluation. Technology and inter-library loan resources are excellent; internal funds are available for scholarly activity.

A standard background and education check are required for this position, with the possibility of needing the three publicly available clearances.

Penn State Erie, The Behrend College is an undergraduate and graduate college of The Pennsylvania State University. We are situated on a beautiful, wooded, 854-acre hillside campus with four academic schools (Business; Engineering; Humanities and Social Sciences; and, Science.) Erie, Pennsylvania, a metropolitan area on Lake Erie, with more than a quarter of a million people, is a major tourism, medical, industrial, and service area two hours from Cleveland, Pittsburgh, and Buffalo. We offer four seasons with cultural, sports, and recreational resources available year ‘round. Our summers are known for festivals, miles of beaches, and water sports, while our winters provide ample opportunity for snow sports. Erie's cost of living is modest, housing is affordable, and there are four other colleges in the region.
