Boston College, a Jesuit, Catholic university in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts, invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean of the William F. Connell School of Nursing (CSON). Boston College is among the nation’s foremost universities as a leader in the liberal arts, scientific inquiry, and student formation. The University community includes 14,600 students, 860 full-time faculty, and more than 2,600 staff.  

The next Dean of the Connell School of Nursing will lead a successful and much respected school that is committed to increasing its impact on nursing, healthcare, and local and global communities. CSON includes 81 full-time faculty and staff, and enrolls approximately 740 undergraduate and graduate students. CSON is well positioned within a leading university, with excellent academic programs, talented students and faculty, a rapidly growing research profile, and many active partnerships around the world. The School’s location, six miles from downtown Boston, provides distinctive opportunities. The Dean will be a key voice as the University develops its strategy for nursing education and healthcare and expands connections across the city and beyond. 

The Connell School seeks in its next Dean a recognized nurse leader committed to such Jesuit, Catholic ideals as the importance of educating the whole person, social justice and service, and finding “God in all things.” The new Dean will value the dignity and importance of people from all backgrounds. The new Dean will have excellent communication and relationship building skills and will creatively pursue interdisciplinary opportunities. The Dean will bring a student-centered approach and must strongly value a commitment to undergraduate education. The School has made significant investments in research and will look to the next Dean to value and support nursing science. The Dean must be ready to deeply engage with the CSON community to address challenging societal issues and to support the wellbeing and success of all faculty, staff, and students. 

To fulfill accreditation requirements, the Dean must be a registered nurse (RN) with a graduate degree in nursing and hold a doctoral degree. The Dean must also have a current or eligible RN licensure to practice nursing in the state of Massachusetts. Significant experience in nursing leadership, education, practice, and research and scholarship is expected.
