The Maguire Center for Ethics in Financial Services promotes ethical behavior in the financial services industry by conducting and offering research and programs that go beyond the rules of market conduct to help increase awareness of ethical issues by individuals and companies and support them to think more critically about ethical solutions for the benefit of society.  The Center conducts original research and focuses on translating findings into applied learning for practitioners, both in education and corporate settings.  While the Center is part of The American College for Financial Services, a non-profit accredited institution, our work serves both corporate and academic audiences, with an emphasis on applied knowledge.

 

The Research Director, Corporate Programs will serve as the lead for developing, managing and implementing high-priority research projects and programs. The Director will participate in strategic planning and operations to support all activities relating to attracting and retaining corporate members of the Maguire Center, including liaising with the Center’s corporate members, generating ideas for new research, revamping membership offerings, managing project-related financials and delivering research in multiple communications channels (classroom, on-line, white papers, blogs, etc.).  

 

The Maguire Center is at a key growth point in its history. The Research Director will join a small team as a vital partner in refining the Center’s vision and impact. The ideal candidate will have a passion for business ethics, sustainable business practices, and the role of financial services in advancing individual and societal well-being. S/he will be a strong writer who enjoys communications.  The candidate will ideally appreciate wearing multiple hats -- advocating for the value of business ethics as a visionary leader in some settings, and, at other times, serving as a detail-oriented researcher and administrator delivering high-quality outputs.

 

Essential Functions:

    Lead the research and drafting of white papers and other applied research outputs (e.g., blog posts, corporate workshops) on business ethics topics, such as the ethical implications of AI-enabled technology in business, the evolution of fiduciary duty standards in the financial services and the role of the industry in advancing upward mobility for people of color. Conduct workshops (on-line or in-person) for corporate audiences. Working closely with the Executive Director, the Research Director will lead the expansion of the corporate membership program supporting the Maguire Center, including revamping the benefits of membership and highlighting new opportunities for the Center to advance the awareness of ethics for a corporate audience. Manage the Center’s communications, including its website content and develop the launch of a newsletter. Serve as a liaison with the Center’s corporate and advisory members, including administrative aspects related to the planning of corporate member workshops. Additional administrative duties relating to operations and executing on the Center’s strategy and plans.
Qualifications
    Bachelor’s and graduate degree required, preferably a PhD in social science or related field Minimum 7-9 years’ experience in business administration, consulting, or related fields. Well-versed in qualitative research techniques, such as interviews, surveys, focus groups and case study development.  Quantitative research experience is a plus, but not required. Strong communication skills, including the ability to distill complex research outputs into applied learning for corporate audiences, and to present to business leaders both on-line and in-person. Capable and interested in working effectively in multiple environments, including with senior business leaders and academic researchers. Conversant in the challenges of managing ethical organizations, as well as the regulatory context in which the financial services industry operates.
