The Department of Medicine, Division of Pulmonary is seeking aClinical Nurseto workcollaborativelyas amemberofInterstitialLungDisease(ILD)Team tocareforpatientswithILD.TheClinical Nursewillworkunderthesupervisionof anattendingILDphysicianwhois amemberof theDivisionofPulmonaryandCriticalCareMedicineintheDepartmentofMedicine.Thepositionwillalsoworkcollaborativelywithresidentphysicians,andpulmonaryfellows.

TheClinical Nurseresponsibilitieswillinclude:

Clinical
  • Monitorandfollow-upondiagnostic testresults,prescriptions,medicalequipment,insurance requirementsanddocumentationneedsfor patientsforthe 500+patientsin theILDprogram.
  • Telephonetriageforpatientproblemsandresponse to therapyandcommunicateto theprogramphysicians.
  • Educate patientson theILDinpatientandoutpatientserviceaboutthe diseaseprocessandcurrentandinvestigationaltherapies.
  • Educate andtrain hospitalnursesandhouse staff aboutcareofpatientswithadvancedILD.
  • Round oninpatientservice withthe Pulmonary consultservice whenneeded.
  • Screenmedicalrecordsandfacilitateschedulingofnew referralsto theILD Clinic.
  • Facilitate andobtaininsuranceauthorizationfor medicaltherapy,diagnostic testingandhospitaladmission.
  • Coordinate anddeveloprelationshipswithindustryrepresentatives.
  • CoordinationandOrganizationof the JohnsHopkinsPulmonaryILDPatientSupportGroup.

Research

  • Responsible forsupervising theresearchactivitiesfortheILDProgram
  • Assistwithcoordinationof industryandinternalILDclinicaltrials,includingidentifyingsubjects,IRBsubmission, regulatorydocumentationandprotocolrequiredstudy visitsandtesting.
  • Coordinate andassistwithsample anddatacollectionanddataentryfor databasesandclinicaltrialsbeingdone in theILDProgram.

Administrative

  • ActsasaliaisonbetweenreferringphysiciansandtheILDProgram
  • Actsasaliaisonbetweenhospitalstaff,includingnurses,physiciansandotherdepartments,pulmonary divisionfellowsandtheILDProgram

Any other job functions as determined by the ILD Director.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Individual must be a registered nurse, licensed in the State of Maryland or state where practicing. Bachelor's degree in nursing or related discipline preferred.
  • Current American Heart Association or American Red Cross CPR certification required. Must maintain current licensure and certification during duration of employment.
  • Acceptable completion of the JHH credentialing process is required within two weeks of start date.

Preferred Qualifications:

    Bachelor’s degree in nursing or related discipline.
  • Pulmonary medicine or program coordination experience

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of research methodology
  • Working knowledge of computers including Microsoft Office software
    Must be able to independently assimilate and evaluate clinical data Strong interpersonal, and effective verbal and written communication skills Analytical skills to develop goals, performance objectives, and action plans Ability to demonstrate good clinical judgment in patient management and assume responsibility for decisions, consequences and results having an impact on people in the workplace, patient care and potential or actual research subjects.

Technical Qualifications or Specialized Certifications:Current CPR certification and completion of the JHH credentialing process is required prior to start date.

Physical Requirements:

Sitting, standing and walking for extended period. Reaching by extending hand(s) or arm(s) in any direction. Finger dexterity required to manipulate objects with fingers rather than with whole hand(s) or arm(s). Assisting patients during evaluations within crowded clinical environment. Ability to move standard equipment through a hospital or clinical environment.

The pre-employment physical for positions in clinical areas, laboratories, working with research subjects, or involving community contact requires documentation of immune status against Rubella (German measles), Rubeola (Measles), Mumps, Varicella (chickenpox), Hepatitis B and documentation of having received the Tdap (Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis) vaccination. This may include documentation of having two (2) MMR vaccines; two (2) Varicella vaccines; or antibody status to these diseases from laboratory testing. Blood tests for immunities to these diseases are ordinarily included in the pre-employment physical exam except for those employees who provide results of blood tests or immunization documentation from their own health care providers. Any vaccinations required for these diseases will be given at no cost in our Occupational Health office.
