The History Department at the University of Houston seeks to appoint a colleague for a tenure-track position as an assistant professor specializing in twentieth-century Mexican history, the Dirty War, and the War on Drugs in Mexico between 1969-1985.

The candidate should have five years of teaching experience and offer introductory, upper level and graduate courses not only on the history of Modern Mexico, but also on the history of the Cold War in Latin America and political violence in Latin America, the role of women in movements of resistance in Mexico and in Latin America and also Human Rights. The successful candidate will have demonstrated scholarly potential by having received a number of pre- and-post-doctoral dissertation fellowships.

Candidates should have completed the Ph.D. in History by July 2021, and should have a professional dedication to teaching and to pursuing an active research agenda. A strong record of publications, with journal articles and book chapters in Spanish and in English are essential to the position. The standard teaching load is two courses per semester.

The successful candidate will join a strong cohort of Latin Americanists dedicated to excellence in teaching and scholarship in areas such as, borderlands, empire, environmental, health and medicine, race and ethnicity, gender, women, family and revolution and technology.
