The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and Earth Sciences at the University of Notre Dame (http://ceees.nd.edu/) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track or tenured position in structural engineering to complement and enhance existing research strengths. Qualified candidates at all levels (assistant, associate, or full professor, including endowed) will be considered, with hiring rank and tenure status commensurate with academic accomplishments. The successful candidate must hold a doctoral degree in an appropriate field related to structural engineering and must demonstrate potential for impact through high-quality research and teaching. The existing structural engineering group has significant strengths in diverse fields associated with sustainable and resilient civil and mission-specific (e.g., energy and defense related) infrastructure. In accordance with these strength areas, the department is seeking an outstanding faculty member with a research focus on, but not limited to: resilient and sustainable engineered systems related to infrastructure; high-performance infrastructure systems and components; advanced computational simulation, including physics-based multiscale predictive modeling, artificial intelligence, machine learning, and data science approaches; and innovative infrastructure materials and construction technologies, including metamaterials and multifunctionality.
Candidates for the position should be qualified to teach structural engineering courses, with a strong commitment to teaching excellence at both the undergraduate and graduate levels. The successful faculty candidate is expected to develop and sustain an externally-funded research program and publish in leading scholarly journals. Candidates must have the ability and motivation to participate in collaborative efforts with other researchers both within and outside the structural engineering group. Applications must be submitted online using the following ND Interfolio link https://apply.interfolio.com/80222, and should include a cover letter, detailed CV, separate statements of research and teaching interests, and names and contact information for three references. Review of applications will start on December 1, 2020 and will continue until the position is filled. The University is an Equal Opportunity and affirmative action employer with a strong commitment to fostering a culturally diverse atmosphere for faculty, staff and students. We strongly encourage applications from women, minorities, and those attracted to a university with a Catholic identity. The University also considers all qualified applicants for employment without regard to status as a protected veteran or individual with a disability.
