Old Dominion University invites applications for two full-time, tenure-track assistant/associate professor faculty positions in the School of Community and Environmental Health, one with primary responsibilities in the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences (BSHS) Program, and the other with primary responsibilities in the Bachelor of Science in Public Health (BSPH) Program. Faculty will also contribute to the Master of Public Health (MPH) and PhD programs. Incoming faculty will be expected to maintain an active program of scholarship, teaching, service, practice, and to take on leadership responsibilities in program administration. We are a thriving, multidisciplinary school with a strong commitment to excellence and diversity. We are searching for faculty with an emerging or established record of public health or health services research, teaching, student advising, service, program administration, and practice. Associate professor candidates should have research, teaching and service records that merit an appointment at that rank. All ranks are commensurate with qualifications. Both positions report to the Chair of the School of Community and Environmental Health in the College of Health Sciences (http://www.hs.odu.edu)

Required Qualifications

Earned terminal degree (e.g., PhD, ScD, MD/MPH) in public health or a closely related field from an accredited educational institution.

Candidates for appointment at the assistant professor level should have demonstrated ability and experience teaching in such areas as systems thinking in public health, health policy, health management, health administration, and healthcare systems; an emerging publication record in the area of public health or health services administration; and a research program with the potential for external funding.

Candidates for appointment at the associate professor level should have demonstrated ability and experience teaching in such areas as systems thinking in public health, health policy, health management, health administration, and healthcare systems; a history of peer-reviewed research publications in public health or health services administration; and an active, externally funded research agenda.

  • Experience teaching diverse student populations and non-traditional students
  • Demonstrated student advisement skills
  • Demonstrated ability to work with others within and across departments
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

Experience with curriculum development

o             Experience mentoring doctoral students

o             Familiarity with CEPH, AUPHA or other relevant accreditation/certification processes

o             Experience with distinct teaching delivery formats such as using hybrid and online formats.

o             Familiarity with competency-based educational program planning, evaluation, planning, and monitoring program implementation

o             Experience with practicum/internship and/or field experience

o             Experience with student recruitment and marketing

o             Experience with academic program administration

o             Demonstrated independence and organizational skills

o             Demonstrated practice, community, or professional service
