The Harvard University Center for Jewish Studies

invites applications for the

2021-2022 Harry Starr Fellowship in Judaica

The Starr fellowships for 2021-2022 will be available exclusively to recent Ph.D. recipients working on topics in Jewish Studies dealing with the medieval period (800 – 1500 CE). There will be no theme for this year, but we will try to put together a group of scholars with overlapping interests.

Applications are limited to candidates who have received the Ph.D. degree between May 2018 and May 2021. Applicants who do not have the Ph.D. degree in hand at the time of the application must provide a letter from their advisor stating that they will have the Ph.D. in hand by June 1, 2021.

Starr Fellows must be in residence during the time of their appointment (unless University policy, due to the pandemic, forbids Harvard-sponsored travel and access to Harvard buildings and resources).  Fellows must minimally be in residence during the spring term, but we encourage fellows to come for the entire year.   Starr Fellows will receive a stipend of $40,000 for the spring semester or $60,000 for the full academic year.
