Position Summary:

Reporting to the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Access Consultant, the incumbent will provide realtime captioning service in the educational environment through a computer-aided realtime medium.

This position allows the capability to work remotely for classes, if the CART provider can meet internal security requirements.

Degree and Area of Specialization:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited post-secondary institution strongly preferred; an Associate's degree from an accredited court reporting or broadcast captioning program, combined with relevant certifications and sufficient years of experience may be considered in lieu of a Bachelor's degree for a highly qualified candidate.

Minimum Years and Type of Relevant Work Experience:

Required Qualifications:
1. Five years of realtime writing experience required in post-secondary environment for a variety of subjects including Medicine, Chemistry, Engineering, Computer Sciences, and various Humanities courses.
2. Phonetic aptitude for writing realtime at an average minimum speed of 180+ WPM and 95%+ accuracy rate.
3. Working knowledge and troubleshooting experience with realtime captioning software programs such as Eclipse.
4. Working knowledge and skill troubleshooting experience with delivery platforms such as Streamtext or 1CapApp and other technology related issues.
5. Comfortable projecting captions for display to an audience.

Desired Qualifications:
1. Ability to use math symbols when requested by consumer.
2. Awareness and comfort in working with Deaf and Hard of Hearing people including knowledge or desire to learn sign language; working knowledge of disability issues.
3. Experience with Learning Management systems and how to navigate to find preparation materials and connect to audio.

Resources Needed
Required:
1. Computer: Running Windows 10, minimum of an i5 processor with the capability to run at 3Ghz or higher. Minimum of 8GB of Ramz.
2. Stenographic machine and Stenographic software.
3. Broadband internet connection with a minimum download speed of 35 Mbps.
4. Dedicated confidential work space.
5. Maintain current backups of realtime dictionaries and user profiles.
6. Perform regular system updates on Windows and Skype.

2. Foot pedal
3. Back up Stenographic machine and laptop

License or Certificate:

Certification as a Certified Realtime Captioner (CRC), Certified Realtime Reporter (CRR) strongly preferred. Other certifications may be considered with relevant realtime experience.
