Position Summary:

The Wisconsin State Laboratory of Hygiene (WSLH) serves as the public, environmental and occupational health laboratory for the State of Wisconsin. This position independently provides a wide variety of program support to administrative, supervisory and support services for the Environmental Health Division (EHD) at the WSLH's Agriculture Drive location. This position is responsible for receiving, preparing and logging in Environmental Health Divisions samples. Samples may be from partner agencies like WI Department of Natural Resources (WDNR), WI Department of Health Services (WDHS), universities, public water systems, health departments and private homeowners.

Primary responsibilities include: Opening and processing incoming environmental samples, verifying and documenting sample condition, adding acid to samples as required, performing pH tests on specific samples as required and assigning a lab number to each container; entering and verifying sample information. Additionally, provide detailed information regarding sample testing and receipt conditions for any given sample, and enter this information into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).

Other responsibilities include: Detailed record keeping and verification of code and regulatory compliance using knowledge of local, state, and federal rules and regulations related to public health. Additionally enters and verifies sample information in the LIMS and queries the database for sample information and status. Provides a broad range of knowledge regarding water sampling and testing to effectively meet the needs of customers. Support the LIMS. Additionally, this position provides data and information from the LIMS to WSLH analysts and other employees. This may include contacting customers in cases of missing information and provides feedback to customers on data.

A wide range of other duties as needed, including: water testing kit production for the Safe Drinking Water Act (SDWA)/WDNR program and kit production for the general population as well as other agencies, mailing and shipping water testing kits,

The position requires effective team skills to contribute to the efficient operation of the work unit and organization. This position works under general supervision and reports to the Horizon Data Management Supervisor. The employee in this position is expected to use the tools and principles of quality management in performing their daily work including the following: demonstrate exceptional customer service by establishing and maintaining effective professional relationships with managers, supervisors, co-workers and all customers; consistently model appropriate behaviors and assist other staff in developing effective relationships; ability to multi-task and work effectively with distractions is crucial; provide constructive feedback for the purpose of continuous improvement in a manner that is supportive of the State Laboratory of Hygiene and its mission; use data collection tools as appropriate;; present ideas, carry out assignments and provide information as required; participate in continuous learning through professional development activities.
