The Center for Asian Studies at the University of Colorado Boulder invites applications for a non-tenure track half-time instructor position in Tibetan & Himalayan Studies. A PhD in a relevant field (such as Anthropology, Geography, History, Literature, Religious Studies, or Tibetan & Himalayan Studies) is required at the time of appointment. The appointment begins August 2021.

Who We Are
Founded in 1999, the Center for Asian Studies is Colorado’s oldest and largest area studies center. In addition to investing in faculty research and professional development, building Asia-related international studies and foreign language capacity on the CU Boulder campus, developing academic exchanges with Asian-based institutions, and engaging the local community with Asia-related programs and events, the Center is committed to managing and expanding the interdisciplinary BA in Asian Studies, and to providing student fellowships, scholarships, and study opportunities in Asia. The Center’s mission can be summarized as making as much of Asia as accessible to as many of our students, faculty, and community members as possible. Some 120 faculty in 5 colleges and 20 departments across the CU Boulder campus are affiliated with CAS. The Center is also committed to expanding Asian area studies beyond its traditional home in the humanities and social science disciplines.
What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be
As part of an initiative to establish an undergraduate certificate program in Tibetan & Himalayan Studies, we seek an area specialist to develop courses in traditional Tibetan civilization and contemporary Tibetan society and culture, as well as contribute to existing curricular offerings. Preference will be given to candidates whose research focuses, at least in part, on the study of contemporary Tibet and the Himalayas with field research experience in the region, relevant teaching experience, and fluency in colloquial and literary Tibetan. Expected teaching load will be 4 courses per year. This is a two-year grant-funded position, with a possibility for continuation beyond the period of the grant subject to budgetary conditions.
