Brief Summary of Work for this Position
The Electronic Research Administrator ( ERA ) leads and manages the research and grant administration software and serves as the research data custodian. This responsibility includes overseeing UNCW’s core research administration software (transitioning from RAMSeS to an InfoEd Global implementation branded OSPREY ) with multiple modules to support proposal development, award management, conflicts of interest, human subjects and animal compliance, and biosafety. The ERA will also have primary responsibility for UNCW’s implementation of InfoReady, which is used across campus to promote and manage internal processes, opportunities, and competitions. The ERA is responsible for ensuring research data integrity, and providing regular reports to various stakeholders. In addition, the ERA is charged with developing new ways to leverage the data and systems to improve research administration, business intelligence, and to better support faculty sponsored research and innovation efforts.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in computer science or engineering, data science, statistics, economics, finance, or related field and two years of experience related to the area of assignment; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
- Skills to maintain, configure, and reliably operate computer
systems and databases.
- Knowledge of project management plans including communication,
change, procurement and risk; well versed in IT and the relevant
applications and platforms.
- Knowledge of basic programming skills and experience with
programming languages related to system administration and data
science (e.g., SQL, HTML, Java, Python, API Interactions).
- Knowledge of data quality assurance methods and quality control
procedures, assessing data quality, and data remediation.
- Data analysis and visualization skills.
- A rigorous data-driven problem-solving approach to their
- Ability to discern which problems are important to solve and
then model what is critical to solving the problem.
- Persuasive communication skills – written and oral.
- Successful experience organizing and conducting training.
- Demonstrated ability to work constructively, collaboratively,
and diplomatically with many diverse individuals.
- Time management skills
- Knowledge or familiarity with business intelligence tools
(e.g., Tableau, Power BI) and data frameworks.
- Knowledge of grants.gov, NSF Fastlane, and NIH eRA
- Experience applying system administration and analysis to
- Experience in data mining, and a working knowledge of machine
learning, artificial intelligence, and operations research.
- Experience with multiyear project management.
- Working understanding of a centralized research administration.
Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The Office of Research and Innovation ( ORI ) stimulates and supports UNCW research, scholarship, creativity, and innovation (collectively “research”). This research enhances student learning, discovers new knowledge, forges knowledge leaders, and solves problems critical to North Carolina and the world. The office provides strategic vision, efficient administrative services and training, and leadership to create crucial infrastructure, partnerships, and programs to achieve research excellence and impact. The Office is comprised of three administrative units and a collection of centers, institutes, and programs. The administrative units include the Office of Sponsored Programs and Research Compliance ( SPARC ), the Research Integrity Office ( RIO ), and the Office of Innovation and Commercialization, and the centers and institutes include the Center for Innovation and Entrepreneurship ( CIE ), Marine Biotechnology in North Carolina ( MARBIONC ), and the Institute for the Interdisciplinary Identity Sciences (I3S).
