Job Description

The Assistant Director of Human Resources is responsible for coordinating a comprehensive organizational development program to meet the University’s need for a productive and motivated work force by providing a comprehensive and sustained approach to improving employee effectiveness through programs such as leadership development, mentoring, onboarding and off boarding. The Assistant Director of Human Resources may assume the duties and responsibilities of the Director of Human Resources while the Director is absent, exercising judgment and providing advice on a wide range of personnel matters; and assist the Director of Human Resources in all aspects of operations providing a full range of human resource management services for faculty and staff employees.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES :
• Oversight of Employment Coordinator and Benefits Coordinator as it relates to processes, procedures and engagement with employees and applicants.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES :
• Develops programming, organizes logistics; provides leadership and coaching, evaluates program effectiveness, manages mentoring programs as well as on/off-boarding programs.
• Administers programs by developing programming and curriculum, selecting facilitators and mentors, conducting workshops and managing outcomes.
• Conducts program and training evaluations, analyses and reports program performance; solicits, makes, and implements recommendations for change and improvement by using assessment information, and consulting with supervisors, directors, and administration.
• Reviews programming and training goals in light of the University’s strategic plan and action items and develops programming to address identified needs.
• Works with supervisors and benefit coordinator to provide guidance on orientation and onboarding of new employees and transitioning employees; provides assessment and support.
• Works with search committees and employment coordinator to provide guidance on best practices for interviewing and as well as complying employment laws surrounding recruitment.
• Contributes to a learning and work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage employees.
• Identifies, develops and monitors metrics and analytics to assess overall performance and/or outcomes and makes recommendations for improvement.
• Assists the Director in providing leadership and direction for the University and its employees regarding personnel matters.
• Ensures consistent and equitable application of personnel policies and government regulations throughout the University by helping to advise others about the applicable policies and regulations and enforcing the personnel rules and regulations of the University
• Assist the Director in evaluating HR processes to improve the efficiency of HR operations and administration and recommend new approaches/procedures to effect continual improvement of operations performed.
• Remains competent and current on Best HR practices through self-directed reading and webinars.
• Performs other duties of a similar nature or level

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in human resource management, organizational development or related field
• Four (4) years of experience in human resources or organizational management
• Or, equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job.

Preferred Qualifications

Experience working in higher education.

Physical Demands

Sedentary work; exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.
