FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT
Brooklyn College of the City University of New York (CUNY) invites applications for a Lecturer (Doctoral Schedule) in the Department of Computer and Information Science (CIS) with a starting date in January or August 2021. Lecturers are eligible for a certificate of continuous employment (CCE) upon the sixth reappointment in the title that follows five years of continuous service in the title.
The successful candidate will have excellent teaching skills and will be required to teach both introductory programming courses and a variety of new and existing advanced courses in areas relevant to the NYC tech industry, especially data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. The individual selected will also help develop courses and curricula for the department.
This position is partially funded by CUNY 2x Tech, a $20M Mayoral initiative to double the number of tech bachelors awarded by public colleges by 2022. It entails a comprehensive investment in the instruction, advising, and experience that are essential to prepare New Yorkers for 21st-century tech jobs in NYC. All CUNY 2x Tech faculty and staff members will play a critical role in ensuring that the college’s tech education is aligned with industry demand. The role will involve significant work directly with NYC based industry partners and the NYC Tech Talent Pipeline to review curricula, provide feedback on students’ job-readiness, teach in the classroom, and ensure that overall tech education provided by the college is preparing students with the academic and career readiness skills they need to succeed.
We are an urban liberal arts college, and our department has 24 full-time faculty, over 900 undergraduate majors, over 200 Master's students and over 20 affiliated doctoral students of the CUNY Graduate Center. - Experience teaching undergraduate courses
- Phd degree related to data science, machine learning, and/or artificial intelligence
- Work experience in the NYC tech industry
- Experience in teaching college level classes.
- Ability to work successfully with others in a multi-ethnic, multicultural environment is essential
Salary commensurate with experience and credentials. All appointments are subject to financial availability.
