The Millikin University School of Theatre and Dance is accepting applications for a full-time Assistant Professor in Theatre History and Directing to begin in August 2021.  Millikin is a small, private, liberal arts institution of approximately 1800 students located in Decatur, Illinois.  The nationally recognized School of Theatre and Dance is a vibrant and highly visible component of the campus community serving 260 students in five degree programs including a BA in Theatre and Performance Studies and BFAs in Acting, Design and Production, Musical Theatre, and Stage Management.  This fall, the department moved into a new $29 million Center for Theatre and Dance.

Responsibilities will include collaborating with other Theatre History and Directing faculty on curriculum, as well as teaching classes in the theatre history sequence, introductory script analysis, dramatic literature, Performance Studies, and directing. Successful candidates will be highly collaborative and will participate in recruiting, student mentoring, and engage in scholarship and/or artistic work including directing on the main stage season. Required qualifications: Ph.D. in theatre or theatre-related field, ABD considered.

Strongly preferred qualifications include applicants with experience serving diverse student populations and research or teaching expertise in Black or African American theatre, Latinx theatre, Indigenous theatre, Asian American theatre, Asian theatre, theatre of the global south, LGBTQ+ theatre, or theatre and disability. Previous university teaching experience or professional directing experience are also pluses.

Qualified applicants should submit a letter of application, current curriculum vitae, brief teaching philosophy, and contact information for three professional references to millikin.edu/employment. Additionally, we would like all candidates to submit a brief statement of their experiences with and preparation for working with traditionally underrepresented students as we work to promote equity, diversity, and inclusion within our program. Applications must be submitted by January 3 to guarantee full consideration. Employment and first day of work is contingent upon successful completion of background check. Millikin University is an equal opportunity employer. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. Millikin offers a competitive salary and full benefit package.
