Assistant Professor of Physical Theatre
East Tennessee State University Department of Theatre and Dance invites applications for tenure track Assistant Professor of Physical Theatre to begin fall 2021.
The successful candidate will teach classes in Physical Theatre (covering topics such as clowning, mime, acrobatics, and aerial dance), be versed in a variety of Devising and Physical Theatre approaches (such as Viewpoints, Alexander Technique, Laban Movement Analysis, Lecoq), serve as Director for at least one physical theatre production per academic year, and participate in end of semester showcases. Mentoring student performers, academic advising, service on Department and University Committees, on-going external research/creative activity, and other service to the Department are required.
Position is contingent upon sufficient funding.
- Excellent performance training and the ability to teach Physical Theatre techniques are essential.
- Organization, communication, and collaborative skills are essential.
- Ability to teach other acting or dance courses (such as Acting I, Acting II, Stage Combat, Theatre Movement, Dance Improvisation, or other Dance Technique courses).
BA, BFA or MA degree in theatre and/or dance or other related area of performance with considerable professional experience in the field;
MFA or PhD in theatre and/or dance or other related area of performance.
MFA or PhD in theatre and/or dance or other related area of performance and professional experience in the field.
Intimacy coordination training or certification.
Demonstrated proficiency in Devised Theatre techniques is preferred.
