Reporting to the vice president and deputy chief operating officer, the associate vice president, human resources and institutional equity (AVP) is responsible for leading the organization in the design, development, and implementation of programs, services, and systems according to established standards and metrics as well as insuring productive business partnerships with university constituents. This includes the leadership management of the following areas: Benefits, Compensation, Employee Engagement, Employee Relations, HR Accounting, HR Information Systems, Institutional Equity, Learning and Organizational Development, Payroll, Records, and Talent Acquisition. As a positive, contributing member of the Human Resources & Institutional Equity (HR&IE) executive leadership team, the AVP ensures continuous improvement of HR&IE processes and procedures and works collaboratively with leadership team members to set and achieve the strategic direction of HR&IE.

The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 15 years of diverse human resources experience in positions of increasing responsibility from individual contributor positions to senior management and leadership positions. An advanced degree in Human Resource Management, Business Administration, or related field is preferred. Candidates must have broad working knowledge of HR functions including regulatory and legal aspects and experience managing and developing HR professionals performing a variety of HR functions. An flexible management style that can adapt to varying and diverse situations as needed to achieve stated goals; the ability to lead large cross-functional teams; the ability to exercise considerable judgment and discretion in establishing and maintaining good working relationships; as well as the ability to maintain confidentiality and be objective in all situations are all desired qualities of the next AVP. In addition, successful candidates will have excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with individuals and groups at all levels; strong problem solving skills; and demonstrate sound judgement in decision making and follow through on commitments.
