Job Summary

Medical Services at CU Boulder encourages applications for a part-time Advance Practice Nurse (APN). Our ideal candidate can support a flexible schedule to meet varying caseloads. Work will include evaluating and treating COVID-like and Flu-like illness in the Public Health Clinic at Wardenburg, and monitoring patient-performed COVID testing in on-campus satellite locations.

The Wardenburg Medical Clinic provides a wide range of health care services for students including: primary care for illnesses and injuries, as well as chronic conditions, physicals, sexually transmitted infection testing and treatment, allergy shots, vaccinations, travel health care, and concussion care.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

Patient Care
  • Perform thorough and accurate medical evaluations and design a treatment plan in accordance with medical guidelines and standards.
  • Connect with and educate patients regarding their medical condition, follow-up care, and preventive measures.
  • Prepare and maintain detailed, accurate, and clear medical records which justify the diagnoses, treatment(s) and billing codes.
  • Make appropriate use of Pharmacy, Laboratory, Radiology, Physical Therapy, as well as other ancillary services in clinical decision making.
  • Readily seek appropriate consultation for unusual or unresponsive cases while following established referral procedures.

Team Work
  • Participate with other staff nurse practitioners and physicians sharing a proportionate patient load and clinical responsibilities.

Continuing Education and Updating of Credentials
  • Participate in accredited continuing medical education to acquire and maintain professional knowledge and skills.
  • Maintain current and appropriate nurse practitioner credentials including a Colorado Nursing License, prescriptive authority, National Certification and DEA registration.

Quality Improvement
  • Participate in the implementation of the Medical Clinic Process Improvement activities.


What You Should Know

This position needs to have availability to work Saturdays. No Sundays or evening hours.

We are looking for a candidate who has flexibility in their schedule who can offer 4-5 days per week during times of high patient census. There are periods of time during the year that we do not schedule our 1% staff; these times are typically over winter break, spring break and the summer months (June and July).

Salary Range Starts at $41/hr, commensurate with experience.

What We Require

  • Registered Advanced Practice Nurse with State of Colorado upon hire.
  • Full prescriptive authority in the state of Colorado upon hire.
  • DEA Registration.
  • National certification as an Advance Practice Nurse (such as ANCC).
  • Current BLS certification.
  • Eligible for clinical privileges as determined by the WHS Credentialing and Privileging Department.


What You Will Need

  • Position requires basic digital literacy (experience with Windows based systems).
  • Ability to communicate and relate well with staff and students in an academic environment.

  • Willingness and ability to meet demanding work schedules.
  • Willingness to participate in special clinic situations such as travel clinic, walk in, patient triage, etc.
  • Experience with EMR.
  • Dedication to patient safety and positive engagement with patients, students, parents and staff.
