The Director of Content is a content strategist, storyteller and creator who bridges the gaps between marketing strategy and program deployment, ensuring that we reach our audiences in the right channel, at the right time with the right content. The Director works to develop repeatable, systematic approaches to producing amazingly effective enterprise content with a methodology that leads to content that performs well with constituencies and takes advantage of automation. This role will work closely with marketing partners throughout the University focused on editorial content strategy, directing with strong project management and collaboration skills to transform static content into a form that is detailed, intelligent, structured and fluid for reuse. Generates and curates incredible amount of dynamic content that can be repurposed among multiple channels and platforms. Heads day to day operations of a team of incredibly purposeful storytellers. The Director will oversee a team and be in charge of creating and maintaining editorial calendars, style guides, taxonomies, metadata frameworks and content migration plans. Ensures that technology and content are applied together so that marketing’s contribution to business results are maximized.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of seven (7) years of relevant professional experience, demonstrating strong leadership skills and a strong grasp of modern marketing practices.

• Minimum of four (4) years in a content strategy leadership role, leading practice development within teams, with specific experience with content marketing platforms.

• Exceptional strategic and creative sensibilities, including the ability to translate strategic, conceptual ideas into interactive experiences.

• Must possess strong ability to write and create in a persuasive, emotional manner necessary to create action by audience/customer/alumni/end-user while maintaining and enhancing the University’s brand identity.

• Ability to navigate within a large organizational structure and collaborate with many constituencies.

• Strong organizational, oral and written communication and problem-solving skills.

• Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

• Energetic and detail oriented.

• Exceptional writing and editing skills, graphic design sensibilities, and knowledge of layout techniques.

• Computer literacy, including familiarity with word processing software, spreadsheets, e-mail, and the Internet.

• Experience with web content management systems.

• Desire and proven ability to be continually learning/updating working knowledge of latest systems.

• Experience leading day to day operations of diverse teams.

• A proven track-record of experience driving integrated marketing and content strategy to advance business goals.

• Excellent experience directing operations from concept to completion, building infrastructure/implementing operational plans.

Responsibilities

• This mission critical position is responsible for coordinating our storytelling and content development on behalf of the University.

• Direct day to day operations of dynamic, high performing, content gathering, packaging and storytelling team.

• Ensures team is executing consistent strategy by collecting content (through interviews and research), writing and packaging for multiple uses.

• Creates and manages enterprise content calendar and uses project management tools to effectively manage workload.

• Oversees a team of writers who research, plan, write and coordinate distribution of stories.

• Writing critical stories for major University publications and Flagship digital properties.

• Coordinating distribution of content.

• Performs quality control measures like editing and fact-checking.

• Approves key content prior to post with attention to detail.

• Partners with issues management team for timely and effective response during crisis.

• Approves and selects vendor partners as needed.

• Leads team in partnering with other Marketing and Communications teams to write content, and/or repackage content for use in different media.

• Creates content, in alignment with Syracuse University brand identity standards and communication messaging guidelines.

• Stays up-to-date on industry trends.
