Assist with general clinical patient care and complete referrals as a Medical Assistant within the scope of practice as defined by New York State law, under the direction of a registered nurse, nurse practitioner, physician assistant or physician. Perform laboratory responsibilities under the direction of the Medical Director and Nurse Manager. The Medical Assistant will report to the Nurse Manager.

Qualifications

HS diploma or equivalent. Successful completion of a certified Medical Office Assistant program.

Minimum of 1 year experience as a Medical Office Assistant.

CPR certification required.

Job Specific Qualifications

Successful completion of a certified Medical Office Assistant program, phlebotomy experience required, experience with referrals preferred.

Responsibilities

Clinic Duties: Support providers and nursing staff: Rooming patients, collecting vital signs and information regarding patient health status, coordinate care (phone calls, appointment changes), documenting clinical interactions in patient chart ( EMR ), providing patient education materials

Laboratory Duties: Support the nurses with laboratory functions: phlebotomy, handling of specimens (including use of centrifuge), CLIA -waived laboratory testing, Quality Controls, documentation of test results, specimen tracking with outside laboratory, scanning of faxed results into electronic health records, stocking of laboratory supplies.

Coordinate and manage the referrals process: making referrals to specialists, obtaining prior authorization as required by insurance company and communicates appointment information to the student.

Assist Nurse Manager/Associate Director with special projects and other duties as assigned
