The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts

The School of Theatre and Entertainment Arts offers a dynamic range
of production-related courses in performing and entertainment arts.
From theatre to theme parks and live events, the School’s
professionally-orientated programmes are designed to prepare
students for exciting careers in entertainment and cultural
industries. In addition to its MFA, BFA, Diploma and
Certificate Programmes in Set and Costume Design, Costume
Technology, Property Making, Scenic Art, Lighting Design and
Technology, Sound Design and Technology, Music Production, Stage
& Event Management and Technical Direction; recognising today’s
and tomorrow’s needs for top production crew by local and regional
entertainment companies, the School also offers fast track
intensive courses.
Applications are invited for the following positions:
SENIOR LECTURER (MEDIA DESIGN) Ref:
SL(MDe)
The postholder will be responsible for teaching through production
environment and theoretical classes, as well as conducting
practice-as-research works. The appointee will also work with Head
of Media Design and Technology in curriculum planning, development
of digital strategies, as well as research in emerging
technologies.
Applicants should hold a degree (or preferably a master’s degree)
in digital media/technology/theatre/ computer science, and be able
to demonstrate exceptional professional experience. Tertiary
teaching experience (preferably in a conservatoire context), and a
substantial portfolio of professional practice. Research in
the relevant subject areas are also highly desirable.
Applicants should also be able to
demonstrate:
(a) Significant professional experience in the
postholder’s area of specialism, with a primary focus in one or
more of the followings:
- Visual media design /video production for contemporary &
experimental theatre;
- VR/AR programming;
- Audio-visual design for immersive media;
- Virtual production/engineering;
- Applications of AI, machine learning and/or robotics in digital
media art.
(b) Substantial experience of teaching
(preferably in a Performing Arts conservatoire context), in any
areas of virtual reality/augmented reality/mixed reality,
generative art, extended reality/virtual production, projection
mapping, motion graphics, 3D modeling/animation, computer
programming;
(c) Expert skills in Unity or Unreal
programming;
(d) Experience in curriculum design;
(e) A good understanding of developments of the
postholder’s area of specialism and active engagement with the
regional industry sector(s);
(f) Fluency in spoken and written English.
Additional Desirable Criteria:
(a) Experience in teaching and mentoring in a
multi-cultural context;
(b) Experience in laboratory/facility planning
& project management;
(c) Fluency in Chinese (written/spoken).
Those with lower qualification or less experience may be considered
for appointment at Lecturer grade.
TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
Appointment will be on a two-year contract with the possibility of
renewal, subject to mutual agreement. A gratuity payment equal to
15% of basic salary earned during the contract period will be
payable upon satisfactory completion of contract. Fringe
benefits include leave, medical, and dental benefits.
Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and
experience. Housing subsidy will be provided to the eligible
appointee. The current standard rate of income tax in Hong Kong is
15%.
