Summary:
Utah Valley University is searching for a non tenure track lecturer, starting August 2020 to fill a position in the Architecture and Engineering Design department.

This position will fall under the direction of the Dean of the College of Engineering and Technology and the department chair. Teaching responsibilities may include technical drafting, design related computer software, seminars, and workshops. Under administrative direction from the department chairperson, and dean, individual shall perform some or all of the following duties:
  • Design and teach courses in field of study.
  • Plans, prepares, and follows an approved course of study that includes measurable objectives for each course taught.
  • Prepares instructional materials (course outlines, syllabi, exams, mock-ups, visual aids, and instruction sheets) as necessary.
  • Instructs, manages, and supervises individual and groups in classrooms, laboratories and shops through using appropriate teaching methods.
  • Evaluates instruction and learning by means of appropriate testing methods.
  • Maintains a student-oriented approach to education.
  • Recommends students for advancement and graduation.
  • Maintains and submits accurate and current reports and records involving student accountability, attendance, performance, and follow-up.
  • Is thoroughly familiar with the academic freedom and professional responsibility statement and adheres to these policies.
  • Maintains desirable and safe laboratory, shop, and classroom conditions.
  • Evidence of strong oral and written communication and computer skills.
  • Knowledge and a strong commitment to teaching excellence and student success.
  • Knowledge of courses related to Drafting & Design industry including but not limited to structural steel detailing, architectural, mechanical, electrical, civil/surveying, piping, CAD, 3D Modeling and related Technical Math.

    Required Qualifications:
    Graduation from a regionally accredited university with a Bachelor degree in a field related to Architecture and Engineering Design and evidence of significant undergraduate coursework in Drafting and Design is required.
    Additional requirements include at least five years full time industrial experience in Drafting and Design with an area of expertise in at least one of the following disciplines: Architectural Drafting and Design, Civil Drafting and Design, Surveying, Electrical Drafting and Design, Mechanical Drafting and Design, or Structural Drafting and Design. Extensive knowledge and use of one of these disciplines current 3D modeling software is also required.


    Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
    Knowledge of mathematics including algebra, trigonometry, statics, and strengths of materials with extensive knowledge in one or more of the following is required:
  • Architectural Drafting
  • Civil Drafting
  • Electrical Drafting
  • Mechanical Drafting
  • Structural Steel Detailing
  • Surveying

Effective public speaking, presentation, human relations, communication, and technical writing skills are required. A successful candidate will also possess computer skills in the following:
Required:
  • Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
  • 2D CAD (AutoCAD)
  • 3D Modeling (minimum of 1 required) -Tekla Structures, Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor, Revit, Civil 3D, or other industry equivalent software.
    Optional:
  • 2D CAD - Microstation
  • BIM Software - Navisworks, etc.
  • Rendering/Visualization software- 3DS Max, Photoshop, Enscape, Lumion, etc.
  • Course management software - Micrograde, WebCT, Canvas, etc.
  • An ability to effectively apply general principles to specific design conditions and to read and follow written procedures and instructions is required.


Preferred Qualifications:


Physical Requirements:
Must be able to stand or sit at the head of the classroom for the duration of the required applicable class period. Must be able to stand, walk, sit, hear, see and talk. Requires fine hand manipulation for use with office equipment and computers.
