The Department of Music at Muskingum University invites
applications for a tenure-track faculty position in choral music
education, with secondary expertise in music theory, at the rank of
Assistant Professor, beginning the fall semester of 2021.
Primary teaching responsibilities will include conducting the
university choirs, teaching courses in music education, and
teaching first year music theory. Additional teaching duties may
include teaching applied lessons or in other areas determined by
the strengths and background of the candidate. The successful
candidate will demonstrate the capacity for visible involvement in
the broader southeastern Ohio community as a conductor, pedagogue,
and/or scholar, and the ability to work within a team
environment.
Doctorate or master’s degree in choral music education is required.
Public school teaching experience is strongly preferred. ABD
candidates will be considered, with the understanding that the
terminal degree must be completed within one year and the rank will
be instructor. An equal opportunity employer, Muskingum University
strongly encourages applications from women and minorities,
including members of populations traditionally underserved by
higher education.
Muskingum is a comprehensive university with a strong liberal arts
tradition, located just seventy miles east of Columbus, Ohio, in
the village of New Concord. The university’s total undergraduate,
graduate, and adult-learner student population is approximately
3,000. The university actively seeks-out and welcomes faculty and
staff who are committed to excellence in teaching and student
learning, thrive in a collaborative environment of scholars,
embrace experiential learning, consider the engagement of diverse
communities in the educational experience, and desire to mentor a
multicultural student population.
The Muskingum University Department of Music offers the Bachelor of
Arts degree in music and music education, and minors in music and
musical theatre. With its five full-time and fourteen adjunct
faculty, the department is large enough to offer a variety of study
and performance opportunities, yet small enough to ensure that the
needs of individual students are consistently addressed. An
accredited member of the National Association of Schools of Music
since 1935, the department is also accredited by the North Central
Association of Colleges and Schools and the Ohio Department of
Education.
