The Department of Theater and Dance at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is seeking candidates for an Assistant Professor of Acting/Directing. The successful candidate will participate in department/university service, will maintain an active creative and scholarly agenda, and will teach a 3/3 load that includes all levels of acting (for majors and non-majors). This is a full-time, 9-month, tenure track position whose duties include:  teaching multiple levels of acting/directing and performance technique (both core and elective classes as per specialization); directing one mainstage production per academic year; serving as Head of Performance; advising/mentoring department performance majors; recruitment activities including attendance at High School Thespian Festivals; and advising student productions. Additional summer opportunities in teaching and/or directing may be available. Successful candidates will demonstrate commitment to inclusion, equity, and diversity in teaching, research/creative activity, and service. Each member of the College of Arts and Sciences is responsible for actively supporting the College’s commitment to inclusion, equity, and diversity.  Therefore, candidate applications must include a statement addressing experiences and competencies in supporting equity, inclusion, and diversity.  

The SIUE Department of Theater and Dance is a NAST-accredited liberal arts program.  The faculty are active teacher-artists and teacher-scholars whose creative and scholarly work is recognized nationally and internationally.  The department values diversity and instructors who can share and teach differing points of view.  Ideal candidates will be committed to a dynamic and robust student experience, and who is responsive to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of our students.  An ability to work and teach collaboratively is essential.  

Qualifications
Master’s degree in theater or a related field required; MFA preferred. Professional performing and/or directing experience and prior university teaching experience preferred.

Continuing, academic term (nine-month), tenure-track position.
