Job Description

Virginia Tech's Office for Equity and Accessibility is seeking multiple experienced professionals to join their team as Civil Rights Investigators. Reporting to the Director of Compliance and Conflict Resolution, the Civil Rights Investigator will be responsible for investigating Title IX, civil rights, and sexual misconduct complaints. The Investigator acts as a neutral party and will provide a detailed and unbiased investigation report. The Investigator will work closely with multiple university offices and divisions. The individual assists in the coordination and provision of supportive measures for parties involved in investigations. The position may also assist in providing training, professional development and outreach activities related to harassment, discrimination, and prevention education to members of the university community.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree;
• Experience conducting HR or workplace investigations;
• Demonstrated judgment with the ability to manage highly sensitive and confidential information;
• Demonstrated skills in the areas of conflict resolution, problem solving techniques, interviewing and investigation;
• Demonstrated ability to use analytical skills and the ability to assess and negotiate complex, highly sensitive situations;
• Exceptional critical thinking skills demonstrated by the ability to analyze information, evaluate results, and facilitate resolution of difficult challenges, including the ability to handle issues of complex and extreme sensitivity;
• Demonstrated skills in writing concise, logical analytical reports to convey complex issues;
• Ability to maintain neutrality and work under stress;
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity and success in working with diverse constituencies, both domestic and international, to support an inclusive campus environment;
• Strong and effective interpersonal skills;
• The ability to listen well and demonstrate sensitivity to and respect for individual needs; and
• Ability to establish and maintain professional and productive working relationships with staff at all levels at the university.

Preferred Qualifications

• Juris Doctorate degree or Master’s degree in a related field;
• Experience in an office of discrimination and harassment prevention or civil rights compliance is highly preferred;
• Ability to read and interpret complex legal documents;
• Professional experience conducting investigations in a university setting;
• Title IX Investigator training certification.
