Walden University, an accredited institution committed to quality higher education, positive social change and broad access through distance learning is seeking a professional to join our team as Senior Director of Academic Residencies. Walden University offers graduate degrees at a distance in education, management and technology, health sciences, and the social and behavioral sciences, as well as online master’s and bachelor degree programs. This position is remote within the continental United States.

Duties and Responsibilities
Walden University doctoral students, some bachelor’s and master's students attend residencies held throughout the year. The residency events occur both virtually and in person. During residencies, students, and faculty work together on educational and scholarly activities. The Senior Director of Academic Residencies plays a key role in the academic residencies programming. Responsibilities of this position include working with the leadership to share responsibilities for planning and implementing educational experiences at residencies, and as needed, serving as an on-site supervisor. This role reports to the Dean of Academic Residencies.

The key responsibilities of this position are:

  • As part of a work team with the Dean of academic residencies and advisory council, continuously review and revise residency curriculum and programming related to Walden's mission, vision, and commitment to excellence in research.


  • Advise and work closely with the College/School/Program Residency Coordinators and Program Directors in identifying the schedule and visual guide for content delivery for residency experiences.
  • Work collaboratively with college leadership during new program summits to develop program scheduling post summit.
  • Identify faculty suitable to realize the academic residency learning outcomes while striving to have a faculty serving the residencies that reflects the University’s interests in providing gender, racial, and ethnic diversity (in collaboration with Operations Team and Residency Coordinators).
  • Ensure all student-facing groups understand updates to residency curriculum and processes.
  • Supervise the academic residencies operations staff in execution of residencies processes and functions, including registration, student correspondence, petitions, communications with other university departments, and training and curriculum materials and carry out performance reviews.
  • Offer advice and guidance to faculty serving the academic residencies regarding the content and delivery of instructional materials in the learning environment.
  • Act as a liaison between academic residencies, advisory council and event planning staff related to logistical issues.
  • Manage Dissertation/Doctoral Study Intensives, including faculty selection and training.
  • Travel to and serve as on-site administrator at residencies, remaining onsite to manage their delivery.

  • Experience:
  • Masters degree required, Doctoral degree preferred.
  • Five or more years’ experience in an educational setting with adult learning, curriculum, or program development.
  • Excellent written, interpersonal, and verbal communication skills.
  • Detail, analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interact with a diverse faculty, adult students, and staff in varying levels of responsibility and expertise.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills: ability to plan and manage multiple events simultaneously.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability and willingness to travel to residency locations, both nationally and
    internationally (if applicable).
  • Commitment to using technology as a means of maximizing effectiveness.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Internet navigation, and Learning Management Systems (preferably Blackboard).
  • Student Information Systems, and web editing experience is a plus.
