Job Description:

Perform initial processing and storage of biospecimens from acute care and emergency medicine research studies including centrifuging samples, pipetting, labeling and storing. Maintaining the lab space database (lab roster, chemical inventory, annual inspection).

Perform biochemical and analytical assays to measure lipid and lipoprotein function. Prior experience in biochemical assay development and in lipid, lipoprotein or cholesterol metabolism is a strength. Specific skills should include knowledge and experience in:

•Knowledgeable in general laboratory procedures and meticulous in recording, tracking & reporting of data collected

•Following, Writing, and Revising Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

•Understands genomics, molecular and cell biology

•Protein and/or DNA analysis

•RNA / DNA extractions

•Cell Culture / Aseptic Technique

•Handling Liquid Nitrogen

•ELISAs

10% Monitor biobanking of samples from various studies. Work with off-site laboratories at UF Gainesville and other universities to transport specimens for specialized testing. Can work with a LIMS system for sample storage and analysis.

5% Assist in the training of other research personnel. Assist with daily operations and maintenance of the instruments.

5% Other duties as assigned, incidental to the work described herein. Duties such as: analysis of clinical samples consisting of blood, buccal swabs, saliva samples, and urine specimens.

Expected Salary:

$14.60 - $19.16 per hour



Pay Range Based on Market:

(Annualized)



Lower reference point: $30,500 Midpoint: $38,100 Upper Reference point: $45,700

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in biology or a closely related life science field.

Preferred Qualifications:

1-3 years' experience in clinical research with biomedical lab or data experience.
