Mercyhurst University in Erie, PA, invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of Intelligence Studies in the Department of Intelligence Studies of the Ridge College of Intelligence Studies and Applied Sciences. The position is located at the Erie campus and begins spring semester 2021. To be hired at the tenure-track assistant professor level, applicants should possess a Ph.D., or other terminal degree. ABDs are encouraged to apply but hiring will be at the visiting instructor level without a tenure-track option until Ph.D. is completed. Candidates should have five years of IC experience. Special attention will be given to applicants who have ten or more years of practitioner experience and the ability to manage applied analytic projects, grants and contracts.

 

Job Summary

Successful candidates will teach introductory and applied courses in intelligence analysis at the undergraduate and graduate levels.  In addition, successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate or graduate courses in two or more of the following areas:

 

  • Law Enforcement Intelligence
  • Cyber Threat Analysis or data analytics
  • Managed attribution and Open-Source Intelligence
  • Geospatial Intelligence
  • Structured Analytic Techniques
  • Social Media Analysis
  • Science and Technology Intelligence

 

In addition to instruction, duties include curriculum development, service to the profession, and participation in University and Ridge College activities, including student mentoring, development of internship and employment opportunities, and grant or contractual work with the Ridge College’s Institute. The selected candidate must demonstrate a commitment to teaching excellence, continued learning in their field, and academic and public scholarship.

 

The intelligence studies program is an interdisciplinary application of the skills of intelligence professional with problem solving, communication, and application within critical national security, law enforcement and business domains. The college meets these objectives through a challenging curriculum that emphasizes problem development, information collection, quantitative and qualitative analysis, and the application of technology to assist in information gathering, analysis, and knowledge transfer (big data). The importance of multi-media, social media and data visualization to support communication is emphasized. Courses in leadership, ethics and organizational theory assist in preparing students for new leadership and management roles in intelligence and applied sciences.
