Biologist GS-13 (FTE)

Laboratory of Sensorimotor Research, NEI

The intramural program of the National Eye Institute invites applications for a position as a Biologist within the Laboratory of Sensorimotor Research (LSR). This appointment will be at the GS-13 level. Investigators in the LSR routinely require histological reconstruction of brain tissue, and more recently have taken advantage of emerging technologies to conduct optogenetic and chemogenetic manipulation of neural activity. Applicants will be expected to plan and conduct neuroanatomical, neurophysiological, and behavioral research on the central nervous system, especially as they related to visual, sensory, and motor disorders. The primary purpose of this position is to conduct and support experiments related to the LSR’s use of histology, anatomical tracing, optogenetics, chemogenetics, and other virus-based techniques. Although the applicant is expected to work collaboratively with investigators in the LSR, the applicant will also have the opportunity to engage in independent self-initiated research.
