The West Coast Regional Senior Assistant Director at Babson is the primary College representative to prospective students and families, high schools, community colleges and Community Based Organizations in their geographic region, and areas outside of their primary geographic region as needed. This position is responsible for recruiting, advising, and enrolling prospective students to the College and serving on a 13-person admission committee. The West Coast Regional Senior Assistant Director is required to travel on behalf of the College, interview candidates, present to various contingencies (students, school counselors, and Community Based Organizations), conduct live and online information sessions and webinars, and review applications to the College.

The West Coast Regional Senior Assistant Director is solely responsible for a territory of applicants in which their primary responsibility is critically assessing applications, making critical and thoughtful admission decisions, and applying strategic thought to create an impactful and inclusive campus community. Key Responsibilities:

  • Travel to high schools, college fairs, and Community-Based Organizations, arranging and conducting interviews with prospective students, hosting receptions and interview days in their geographic territory.
  • Critical review and assessment of admission applications to the College, presenting recommendations to the admission committee, having ownership in decision-making processes (this includes some evening and weekend work) and taking on additional reading for applications not in the primary geographic territory.
  • Maintain responsibility for geographic territory at both the inquiry and admit stages, including oversight of historical inquiry and applicant statistics to inform recruitment plan, cultivating relationships with students and school counselors and being responsible for all contact with students in this geographic region through all stages of the admission cycle.
  • Participate and engage in regional admissions organizations such as NARAC (National Association of Regional Admission Counselors) and RACC (Regional Admission Counselors of California).
  • Manage and coordinate specialized roles that may include one or more of the following: social media efforts, transfer admission, alumni volunteer programs, some off campus Babson events, International Recruitment, and/or other admission projects as assigned.
  • The West Coast Regional Senior Assistant Director role will require the candidate to work with a great deal of autonomy, accountability, a high level of trust and self-motivation. The hours will fluctuate on a weekly basis but the expectation is at a minimum of 35 hours per week, with online presence at weekly staff meetings and other pertinent meetings.
  • Provide weekly event reports for all recruitment events, complete weekly expense reports, and present weekly intentions for online information sessions and in person sessions to the Associate Director.

  • At least 4-6 years of experience of increasingly responsible roles in admissions.
  • Must have demonstrated ability to work creatively and efficiently, as a member of a team and more specifically individually.

  • Must have excellent public speaking, interpersonal and written communication skills and exceptional critical decision-making ability.
  • Ability to envision and propose new methods to perform tasks that support ET&A; take thoughtful risks; and accept new and ongoing initiatives, objectives, and solutions to gain sought-after results.
  • Ability to anticipate and embrace change; demonstrate willingness to achieve, acquire, and utilize new skills and challenging tasks; and is flexible in changing conditions.
  • Must have strong computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, and PowerPoint).

Working Conditions:

  • Requires a willingness to work some evenings and weekends.
  • Requires the ability to manage ongoing responsibilities with autonomy and to manage annual travel of approximately 16 weeks per year with the expectation that significant travel will occur between late August and early November and will resume from early March until May.
  • Must have had a valid unrestricted U.S. Driver's License for one year, and maintain throughout employment an insurable (as determined by the College's insurer's criteria) or a satisfactory driving record; must successfully complete and pass the College's vehicle training program within the first 60 days of employment; annual or more frequent review of employee's driving record based on the College insurer's criteria; and safety training as required by management.
