JOB OBJECTIVES:  

This position provides professional support and leadership for a variety of activities including training, reporting, and exercising leadership in data and process analysis with respect to assessment and continuous quality improvement. The Assessment Coordinator represents the Office of Institutional Effectiveness and Planning by collaborating across the University community, including service on committees, as needed.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Coordinate faculty and departmental support for assessment and evaluation. Coordinate training faculty and staff in the design of meaningful assessment, which will produce results that can inform and further continuous quality improvement. Work with institutional constituencies that originate data to ensure that institutional assessment data is accessible, accurate, reliable, meaningful, and meets the requirements and needs of the university; resolve issues as required. Coordinate and execute systematic gathering, analyzing, managing, and interpreting assessment data. Work closely with academic program directors and deans to support their mission, program objectives, student learning outcomes, and student learning objectives. Work closely with University directors to support their mission, core functions, outcomes, and action items. Responsible for reporting on aspects to help ensure that curricular and student engagement comply with University Strategic Plan reporting needs. Responsible for assisting academic department(s) in General Education assessment. Provide expertise and support for implementation of research projects with regard to assessment and continuous quality improvement. Extract data from software systems to provide routine and complex reports, as needed; resolve issues as required. Adhere to federal and university policies regarding access to, use of, and release of confidential information and data security. Prepare and maintain accurate and complete records, files, documentation, or audit of work performed so that they are easily accessible.  

EDUCATION/EXPERTISE: 

Coursework in educational research, measurement, higher education administration, statistics, data analysis, social or natural sciences, or a related research field is required.  Master’s degree preferred. Utilization of databases and related software for the purposes of assessment and reporting. Possess experience in writing reports with quantitative and qualitative data and analysis with regard to facilitating assessment and continuous quality improvement. At least four years of experience is required in performing the function of curriculum development, and/or institutional effectiveness and planning, and/or assessment in a higher education setting. JOB REQUIREMENTS/SKILLS/ETC.:

Excellent oral communication and writing skills with proficiency using the English language. Proficiency in preparing messages and materials for diverse audiences with attention given to the end-user experience. Ability to learn quickly and apply knowledge to practical assignments, effectively manage multiple, simultaneous projects with attention to detail, documentation, and evaluation of end products. Proficiency in database management, software programs, and microcomputer applications to facilitate the processes of assessment and office functions. As part of this proficiency, the individual must be willing to maintain state of the art technical skills. Knowledge, appreciation, understanding, and ability to work effectively with a diverse population. Knowledge, appreciation, and understanding of different modalities of instructional delivery. Ability to maintain and observe strict and total confidentiality of records and files. Ability to facilitate and maintain effective practices in student learning assessments. Awareness, appreciation, and understanding of the connection between evaluation of student learning and needs of programmatic and institutional accreditation. Understanding and conveying the linkages between assessment, planning, and accreditation. Understanding and conveying the linkages between direct and indirect assessment methodologies for total quality improvement. Ability to facilitate and maintain effective practices in program and institutional assessments. Knowledge and understanding of qualitative and quantitative research methodologies and protocols, statistical analysis, and technical writing. Willingness to work as a team member, assisting others with deadlines during heavy traffic periods, and to maintain a professional work ethic. Ability to manage projects, communicate progress, and effectively document end results. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  

Visual acuity to use a keyboard and view a computer terminal.  Requires good hand-eye coordination, arm, hand and finger dexterity, including ability to grasp. Ability to travel independently and with others, especially during peak season; May require ordinary ambulatory skills sufficient to visit other locations or the ability to stand and walk. Ability to occasionally lift, carry and/or move light to medium weight up to twelve (12) pounds and/or exert up to twelve (12) pounds of force.
