Assistant/Associate Director of Clinical Microbiology

The Department of Pathology, University of Maryland School of Medicine is seeking a qualified M.D. and/or Ph.D. who will assist in directing the extensive, high complexity Clinical Microbiology Laboratory located in the Laboratories of Pathology, University of Maryland Medical Center, Baltimore, Maryland. The Assistant/Associate Director will be actively involved in clinical issues, such as, quality management, operational efficiency and outreach. The ability to assist in leading a highly proficient team and excellent interpersonal skills are desired. The applicant should have an academic orientation with evidence of scholarly achievement. A history of funded research, current research funding and experience in developing and translating their discoveries into novel clinical applications is preferred. The applicant will be expected to be active in teaching medical students, residents, fellows and graduate students. In addition, the Assistant/Associate Director will have responsibility to assist in providing clinical microbiology direction and support to the faculty practice laboratory that is part of the University of Maryland Pathology Associates, P.A. Academic appointment and salary will be commensurate with experience.

Required qualifications include Board certification/eligibility in Clinical Microbiology (ABMM or equivalent) or Board certification in Clinical Pathology. Experience in molecular and clinical microbiology, to include bacteriology, mycology, mycobacteriology, parasitology and virology is necessary.
