Purpose of Position

The College of Health and Human Services ( CHHS ) is accepting applications for an Academic Advisor position. This is a temporary faculty appointment. The Academic Advisor will provide academic advising, guidance and support to undergraduate and graduate students. The Advisor will utilize holistic and proactive academic advising strategies towards goals of student retention, persistence, accomplishment, and success.

Primary Responsibilities

The Academic Advisor will:

Conduct individual advising appointments primarily with CHHS students in undergraduate and graduate online programs.

Provide personal and professional communication (face-to-face meetings, email, phone calls, Skype, etc.) to undergraduate and graduate students on advising issues and questions.

Collaborate with other Advisors and staff in the CHHS Advising Center, Dean’s Office, and other departments within the college and across NKU .

Engage in placement, transfer, graduation, and other degree-path issues of students to ensure student success.

Generate and disseminate data reports form SAP and other university sources of information as needed.

Collaborate on admissions, orientation, recruitment and retention events sponsored by Academic Affairs/Student Affairs, and the college.

Attend Admissions’ events, student-focused outreach events, and relevant college/career fairs in the region.

Serve CHHS and NKU committees as appropriate to the duties/responsibilities of the position.

Participation in university-sponsored professional development programs, the National Academic Advising Association and the Kentucky Academic Advising Association is encouraged.

Qualifications

Master’s degree; preferred degree in Education, College Student Personnel, or Counseling.

Candidate should have successful experience with multi- cultural, ethnic, and racial student and other underrepresented populations.

Additionally, candidates should demonstrate the ability to articulate an understanding of student development theory.

Experience working with online students or students in health- related professions is preferred.

Strong organizational and interpersonal skills, attention to detail, and exceptional communication skills are required. Candidate should have strong teamwork skills, and ability to handle multiple tasks.
